Now how do you expect me to brook such a comment” I made absolutely no statement to the effect that you assign to me as one of the first 24 posters on this thread. In fact, I think I’ve made myself quite clear on this in other threads. Illegal aliens should be deported. It can be done, its just that most pols lack the intestinal fortitude to deny themselves the ever expanding vote bloc of illegals that shouldn’t have a say about anything in our country.

Clear enough for you?

I suppose “I am intrigued and open to the Bush administration’s amnesty proposal.” doesn’t define his amnesty position, either.

In the early part of 2001 the Texas Legislative Branch had inside knowledge that the newly elected President was going to Washington and pass amnesty either in the lame duck months of 2004 if he was going to lose in 2004 or in his lame duck years of his 2nd term. It was inevitable from their perspective so Texas decided to get a jump on it and wanted to turn as many as they could into Tax Payers instead of legal welfare draws. The only thing that stopped him was 9/11.

This leaves Perry with a really big problem right now, most of Perry's money is coming from Texas where Bush is still very much loved and respected. If Perry comes out and tells people why that law was passed his money will dry up and all the rest of the base will accuse him of parroting 0bama by blaming Bush.

Perry says he is against amnesty and that he thinks it is immoral. Considering Perry's religious convictions that is a pretty strong stand against it.

There are a lot of misconception about the law. The biggest one is that it is a handout, our state colleges and universities are funded by sales taxes and property taxes that illegals have no choice but to pay so at least they have 'skin in the game'. Also, to say other American children are put at a disadvantage to illegals is just not true. They are at a disadvantage because they are not Texans, just like Texas kids are at a disadvantage in the 56 other states.

Those kids are here. Because of our laws a good portion of them are going to get their statues changed as soon as they have a kid here. If the laws were different Texas would have had other options. But we didn't, those are the cards we are holding and we had to play them. Only Washington has the ability to draw new cards. Perry wants the job, he is one of the only two people (Jan Brewer) in this country that is actually fighting the border war and understands it. He told us what he plans to do when he became the head of the RGA and if you research the border you will come to the same conclusions that Perry has. The only way to secure the border is to return order to Mexico by sending US troops into Mexico. You can also see here at least one report by the DoD that shows their intent to move the "War on Drugs" under the umbrella of the "War on Terror"  (See page 7) which is probably the correct thing to do, but will have massive implications on Border States like Texas, Arizona and your state of California. The thought of having the next battlefield on our front porch should scare the hell out of all of us. We better have someone in office who understands it and is not trying to learn on the job.

So who are the choices?

Herman Cain who thought it was funny to say he wanted to kill people climbing the fence that he somehow thought you could put in the middle of the Rio Grande? That shows either he has no concept of what is going on at the border or does not understand that what he says now has massive world wide consequences if he were to be elected. By the way, Cain had no problem supporting Mike Huckabee (see letter C) in 2004 who sponsored a bill that actually did give illegals tax payer money to pay tuitions, books, living expenses and anything else they wanted to buy in Arkansas.

Mittens? Please!

Newt, Bachmann, Santorum, Paul? All of them are or were members of the Federal Government who were charged by the US Constitution to secure the US Border and all of them failed to do so and should be given no credibility on the issue.

Show me where he said he supported amnesty. I am aware that Perry critics say he did by saying he supported a guest worker program, but that is not amnesty. The guest worker program he was for allowed Mexicans to come into the country to work (when the economy was good) but also made them leave when the work was done.

Wait, we were just told this by another Perry supporter:
Perry has pointed out that a lot, if not most, of the illegals enter this country legally then simply overstay.

So now Perry wants a guest worker program where Mexicans can come in legally...but he's also states that most illegals simply overstay. What's to stop his guest workers from staying? More horrid Perry logic.

Because a guest worker program would have enforcement teeth that the current system does not.

Here's an example. I am an ex-cop in Texas, when I made traffic stops on someone who is here illegally who has "over-stayed their Visa" there is nothing I can do or even know they are here illegally unless there is a warrant from ICE (Yeah, that's likely). But let's say there is, all I can do is turn them over to ice and now the Feds are going to deal with them. Most likely USCIS is going to give them a hearing date, let them go and they will be living in Limbo for the next 20+ years. With a typical illegal it is even worse. Let's say I pulled them over, if they have no driver's license I get to arrest them and hold them until I can establish their identity. I can do that two ways, either through their finger prints or by having someone come and prove their identity with a birth certificate or such. If they have never been arrested or entered the country illegally we don't have their prints on file so I am going to tell them to call a family member to bring some way to identify them. If they are here illegally and can't do that then I have to hope that they tell me they are here illegally so I can turn them over to ICE. If they lie and say they are a citizen I can not turn someone who claims to be an American over to ICE. They will sit in jail until either they decide jail sucks and then tells the truth, or will stay until someone finally has enough and kicks them loose because their life in jail is better than their life in Mexico.

A guest worker program would have those prints on file and if they overstay I can see that and send them to be deported. It has drawbacks, we would still have to have probable cause to check but it keeps them out of limbo. It wont solve the problem of people sneaking in, but it would lower the numbers and added to it should be a plan to secure the border.  It might not even be the best solution, but it is better than the one we have now and no matter how you look at that, it was not Perry's plan and it certainly is not Perry's fault.

This article is BULLSH_T!

Here in wunnerful 'ILL-ear-noise' we had in-state tuition for illegals shoved down our throats a few years ago by the Daley Machine Puppets and his RINO collaborators (aka: Karl Rove's buddies) in Springfield and it doesn't (blanking) work. We didn't ask for it. We didn't want it. We didn't vote for it. And we sure as HELL don't like paying for it.

The end result was = We. Are. Now. Bankrupt.

The state can't pay it's bills. Contractors wait months for a check for work done six or seven months ago, and some don't get paid at all. IL is BILLIONS in the Red (the state has to pay cash for #2 pencils at Office Max /s). Yet, young Jose still got, and gets, to pay the same tuition at a state college just like our youngest daughter did at ISU (IL State Univ).

Therefore, if Texans love this idea so much - as this nonsensical tripe of an article says - then they're just as fricken crazy as The Daley Machine, the Illinois Democratic Party, and IL RINOS!

Now how 'conservative' is that!?!

(((((( crickets ))))))

"A security fence from the Gulf of Mexico to the Pacific Ocean is estimated to cost $5.6 billion. I suspect the maintenance and manning cost would be a couple hundred million a year on top of that."

$5.6 Billion / 1500 miles = $3,733,333 per mile!!!

Are we building a platinum fence? Are we having to pay Biden rent? A typical 6 strands of barbed wire livestock fence costs $1800/mile. That's $2.7 million.

You could build 4 separate barbed wire fences with 12 strands of barbed wire for $24 million. You could put a fleet of 25 predators on the border for $1 billion ($40 million each). But since you wouldn't arm them they probably wouldn't be near that expensive. And there are cheaper surveilance drones out there like the global hawk, that could cut that price in half.

It’s the national prop 187 that won’t work for precisely the reasons you mentioned. The courts are going to overturn it.

If the Federal government isn’t going to deport the illegals, the courts aren’t going to let you let them stay here and then let them starve or go without emergency medical care or pay more than everyone else for education.

You have two problems. You have to stop the influx. And you have to deal with those that are already inside. Your proposal will do neither. Denying Federal benefits is not enough to drive out illegals who are able to earn much more than here than in Mexico, benefits aside.

And I believe Perry is wrong about most illegals arriving legal then overstaying. That is probably true for non-mexicans, but I don’t believe it’s true for Mexicans.

That $40 million price tag I quoted was for 4 predators. So for $250 million you could put 25 predators in the air. And I’m not sure whether the Global Hawk is cheaper.

California passed Prop 187 in 1994 requiring state agencies to screen for immigration status those seeking to use social services. Whatever happened to it?

Ya want the truth?

As other states stood gawking, the Feds working in concert with their state government co-conspirators, after Californians voted overwhelmingly and passed Prop 187 in a free election of the people, declared their election illegal and burned the ballots.

The results of this government dictatorial intrusion can now been seen in every state, county and city in the U.S. Of course, this was the plan.

Prop 187 would have stopped illegals from receiving most all tax funded services.

Never forget 187.

More or less.

Never forget 187.

It needs to be national policy. Government agencies cannot reward those who break the law. It should be considered basic common sense.

In-state tuition makes some sense there.

Yeah it makes sense if you want to ENCOURAGE instead of DISCOURAGE illegal immigration. You people defending in-state tuition are really something else.
