If Free Republic wants to be against Mitt Romney's nomination or against his election if he wins the nomination, that's the site's choice. However, trying to fool yourselves into believing that Mitt Romney isn't the candidate most likely to defeat Obama is foolish.

Romney cannot win against obama nor is he the most likely of the current GOP candidates. This is a farcical lie being promoted by the RINO GOP elitists.

Far too many conservatives have strong, sound and extremely understandable reasons to completely reject his candidacy. He's simply not acceptable as a republican nor does he represent the view of conservative republicans outside of a DNC rally.

He's disqualified already in the eyes of many simply because of romneycare.

There are too many other reason to list to reject him.

For the GOP elite to ignore this is simple suicidal idiocy.

I'd rather see the nation burn and rebuild from ashes than elect someone who basically agrees with obama on obamacare on every single point.

You can never convince enough people to change their opinion on this to make it even remotely possible for romney to win. Any projection of a romney victory is based in severe delusion.

The poll numbers don’t support your assertion that Mr. Romney can’t win. You’re welcome not to vote for him. I hope you enjoy another four years under Obama. I won’t, but maybe you will.

As I said in the previous post, the numbers don't support your assertions. You are welcome to hate Mr. Romney. That's your right. You're welcome to cast your vote for whomever you choose. That's also your right. You're even welcome to believe that the country would be better off with another four years of Obama instead of having Mr. Romney win in 2012. However, any claim that other candidates are stronger general election candidates at this point is silly. Rick Perry has been shown to be a clown. Michele Bachmann looks better these days because of comparisons to Rick Perry, but she still has no appeal to the majority of voters. Herman Cain is popular right now. Herman Cain would do pretty well in the popular vote, but he wouldn't win enough states to win the election.

Maybe Obama can't be beat next year. Incumbency is always an advantage. Maybe the GOP will never find a candidate who appeals to the conservatives but can draw enough moderate and independent support to win. Time will tell, but the assertions of this commentary still have no basis in reality.

Do you also support McCain, Lugar, Snowe, and Specter (past tense, Thank God)? How did we get 15 trillion in debt, with a noble, hard-fighting GOP on our side? The answer is very simple, way too many Republicans are not on our side. Would we have the tea-party had McCain won?

I would like to say that winning the Senate will be a big part of slowing down the progressilve machine. But we had a GOP majority before 2006, but they behaved so badly that we lost that majority precisely because of Rebublicans that are nothing of the kind (including both Bushes). The GOP cannot win without conservatives and the more they are kicked in the teeth and told to shut-up and take it, the more that will bear out.
