Well the fact that a Balanced budget amendment wasn’t instituted with the income tax sort of says it all.

The system was intended to steal from the American Workers.

Heard on the news that the OWS bunch of dirty (literally) squatters are planning 800 cities this weekend. IF that happens then we have a REALLY big problem. all the jokes about owning a gun may not be so funny anymore.

I don’t know how old you are. But the mentors of these people were extremely violent during the 60’s. And apparently bloomberg has run the white flag up over Gracie Mansion.

Something is going to break I just wonder what?

It is so discouraging to see Freepers use liberal tactics with personal attacks and taking things out of coontext... Mindless agenda’s really weakens debate.

I find it the height of irony, and hypocrisy that you actually posted the above!

Interesting how all of the Keynesian Econ Haters are embracing a man whose guiding light is John Keynes.

If you are at a point to the right of the maximum value, then g(xp) will be lower than g(xmax). Thus decreasing x from this point will result in increased value for g.

This isn't Laffer. It isn't Keynes. It is simply Newton.

Newton was master of the Royal Mint (not his best known gig). But did he ever attempt a mathematical model of government revenue via taxation?

The problem with Laffer's curve is that we only know three things about it: it's zero at 0%, it's zero at 100%, and it has a maximum (probably only one) somewhere between 0% and 100%.

And I agree completely with KarlInOhio's points in #34: (1) that the optimum is well to the left of the maximum and (2) that after a tax is imposed, the maximum will likely shift left due to deleterious effects on the economy as the effects work themselves out over time. If you could run the experiment repeatedly in an accurate simulation, my guess is you would probably find that the optimum and the maximum eventually coincide.

I was born in '69. Just a punk kid compared to some. ;-)

We can agree that any tax reform, flat tax to NRST, is worthless if we don't reduce the size and expenditure of the FedGov. Getting rid of some of the extra-Constitutional departments and divisions will be a Herculean, if not outright Revolutionary, effort. Arguing even this one point will meet resistance from Republicans and Democrats alike.

For instance, argue ending the FCC or the FAA right here on FR and see what kind of idiotic arguments you get to continue violating Art 1 Sec 8.

Cut the spending, cut the unConstitutional crap, and give us a taxing schema that is transparent and reasonable.

And yes, if it comes down to it... there is a significant number of us (III% or more) who are very willing and very able to take up arms to protect our Constitution and the promise of freedom it was authored to protect. Let the Socialists chew on that for a while...

“So then the government raises the 9% sales tax to say, 12%.

People reduce spending even more.

Government then raises sales tax from 12% to 15%.”

How is that different than the current situation...?

Amen.

The entrenched Washington elite will never give up their nice little club.

They use our tax money AGAINST us. The have all their little pet projects and “programs” that for decades have convinced Americans we can NOT live without.

The last thing that bunch wants is for Americans to have their own money and that includes small business BTW.

And don’t even get me started on the bureacracy. They are like breeding rabbits. It’s time for some bureacrat birth control.

It's not. Zero doesn't really care about maximizing revenue, even in the short term, much less optimizing the overall economy for the long term. He cares only about maximizing his power.
