FReport from John McCain Townhall, Yuma, AZ 31 August, 2011
vanity | 31 August, 2011 | Marktwain

Posted on 08/31/2011 5:04:51 PM PDT by marktwain

I just came from the John McCain Yuma town hall. I got to the event 20 minutes early. The room was almost filled. I believe most were Colorado River Tea Party folks, because quite a few had the tea shirts on, and I recogized many of the others that were not wearing tea shirts.

I sat in the front row and Senator McCain spoke to us and with us from just a few feet away. Much of the time he was less than six feet from me.

I was impressed with his command of the facts and his ability to handle the crowd. Any doubts that I had about his mental condition were completely dispelled. He had an excellent presence and he appeared fit, healthy and in full control.

He gave a good initial speech. He obviously has done his research over the years and knows Yuma well.

He did a good job at answering questions. The questions were unscripted, and he clearly picked people almost at random. I was picked as the first questioner.

I asked if he was committed to the repeal of Obamacare. He said that he was, and that it was essential to get the economy back on track. He said that the uncertainty of Obamacare was contributing to the lack of jobs.

Other questions included the Federal reserve:

"It needs to be reformed."

Fast and Furious:

The investigation will continue. If we are to do much in the Senate, we need to get majority control of the Senate.

He was obviously very informed on the Gunwalker scandal, but struck a discordant note with his insistance that the U.S. needed to institute more controls to prevent this from happening again. I took this to mean that he wants to require government permission for every firearm sale, essentially backdoor registration.

I doubt if John McCain would phrase it that way, but that would be the result of such legislation.

A Tea Psrty activist read a witty essay thanking John McCain for supporting Tea Party Hobbits against the forces of evil and darkness. The essay ended with a warning that the Hobbits are opposed to a host of creatures of darkness including RINOs.

Senator McCain praised the author and asked for a copy of the essay.

He said that the UN arms control treaty would be stopped in the Senate.

He called for a corporate tax holiday on corporate money brought back from overseas.

I think most freepers would agree with his broad statements of tax policy.

Overall,I came away more impressed with Senator McCain than when I went. He is a sharp, effective politician who I likely agree with most of the time. I hope that we can hold his feet to the fire, but I wonder if he is even going to run again.

I believe that John McCain's strength as a political insider is part of the problem. He has been in Washington so long, that he may not see the federal government as a big part of the problem. He is a formidial politician who can think on his feet and knows how to work a crowd.

I posted this from a friends computer, so I did not have access to a spell checker. I thought speed was more important than some spelling errors.

Really? Did he mention the usage of "recogized" as a real word?

wearing tea shirts

What kind of shirts are those exactly?

He is a formidial politician who can think on his feet and knows how to work a crowd.

And yet three years ago he ran the worst presidential campaign in modern history.

Yes, many others were competing with you to plug McCain.

Tens, maybe dozens. You did well.

So basically what I got from your report is that he is good with facts and quick on his feet in answering questions. Sounds like he would make the ideal candidate for let's say chief animal control officer. Yep. John McCain, Dog Catcher is the ONLY appropriate title for a 1000% RINO who detests and maligns conservatives every chance he gets. Your namesake would marvel at your gullibility.

John McCain’s a Progressive.

Early 20th-century progressives gave us the Income Tax and Prohibition.

That’s all anyone needs to know.

Honestly, I wonder what in the world he's going to do with it?
