Depends.

1. Houston and environs (Harris County and surrounding counties are very conservative, best cost of living, much more cosmopolitan than Dallas, lots of jobs, hard summers but the other seasons are terric to good))
2. Fort Worth (a wonderful, conservative, small city)
3. San Antonio/HillCountry area (a beautiful area with many retirees and military)
4. Dallas (a poor man’s Houston - more liberal, higher cost of living, hard winters give it worse weather than Houston, large financial sector)
5. Austin - only if you like living with university faculty leftists, university students, university hangers-on (they just like the “scene”), and government “workers” (yes, there are people in a tech sector, but they want to be like the lefties in Silicon Valley)

The Oak Cliff area of Dallas is a very quaint neighborhood with a character all its own.

And check out the Polytechnic area of Fort Worth too. Its rustic with a little salsa spice thrown in. /s

They didn’t have enough money to build it. Put a portable building in and had less than 100 people attend.
Don’t know if it is still there or not.

That area is actually not Katy but rather Barker Tx.

I’m in Cypress...NW Houston...and I’m wanting to get out of Texas. I’m sick of the heat!

I am a native of Houston and I love my city and wouldn't want to live any other place but if I was just moving to Texas I think something north of San Antonio or around Austin would be wonderful. I love the Texas hill country!

I wouldn't want to live anyplace where I would be threatened every year by hurricanes like Galveston or Corpus Christi, that gets old.

I wouldn't want to live in Dallas but Ft Worth is a very nice town with nice suburban neighborhoods around it.

Good luck on your move and welcome to Texas!

Coppell, small town feel, nice community, great schools, right outside of Dallas in Dallas County!

“Much more cosmopolitan than Dallas”.... You are SERIOUSLY right about that. Houston is so cosmopolitan its hard to tell its still part of The US.

But in a few years the Dalllas-Fort Woth Mexoplex might rival it.

Btw, the last Freeper who asked a similar question ended up moving his family to Coppell after I suggested it. :)

Take some of the names given to you and go to google and look them up on the City-Data website. It will give you some info about the area.

Example: Katy, Texas

Coppell is nice, but if you are coming to DFW I’d look at Frisco, McKinney, Grapevine, Southlake area. I’d stay away from Dallas proper. Fort Worth area beats Dallas county in almost every aspect, in fact my favortie sign in a Ft. Worth bar-b-que restraunts says it best....Life is too short to live in Dallas !

Take a look at North Dallas area, particularly Prosper. Suburbia/farm mix, 40 min from downtown (rush hour), good schools, good local PD, good people.

You should be choosing between hurricanes or tornadoes. :)

...finding it hard to get out and meet people other than her co-work...”

Have her check out Second Baptist Church. Great singles groups that do lots of stuff not necessarily related to church. There are some sailboating, canoeing and skiing groups available - several in the Clear Lake area. Group names sometimes listed in Leisure Learning class schedules. Also several single golf groups that play all over the area most every weekend.

Check out Missouri. You can freeze your azz off for 5 months of winter and sweat all you like for 3 months of summer.

The other 3 months are tornadoes...

BEST OF BOTH WORLDS!!!!

Enjoy.

Houston is a major world port; it has more restaurants per capita than just about any city, and those restaraunts are affordable; because of the massive energy, health research, and tech sectors, people from all over the world come to Houston to do business. We have our share of illegals, but so does every other city in Texas.

Harris County provides 1/3 of the GOP vote. On the whole Dallas is more liberal politically.

I live in Coppell and it’s closer to the metro area then Frisco. Frisco is nice, but to far from Dallas for me.

What ever you do...don't even think of moving to Oklahoma.

Ticks the size of sparrows...Chiggers the size of big spiders..and they chew on your privates.

Not to mention it's 140 degrees today...and last Jan. it was -20 degrees...

But hey....TX is great...Go on down there!!
