Thermodynamics and Closed Systems, or, Gore's Demon

By now, everyone has heard of "global warming" or "anthropogenic global warming" (lately, for some inexplicable reason, modified to "climate change").

Among the foremost proponents of this has been failed Vice President Al Gore, who wrote a book called Earth in the Balance in which he called the internal combustion engine a greater threat to the survival of mankind than thermonuclear weapons.

As though we ended World War II by dropping a Studebaker on Japan, and held Strategic Buick Limitation Talks with the U.S.S.R.

Following this seminal achievement, he went on to create a documentary called An Inconvenient Truth in which he claimed that "global warming" would lead to record numbers of hurricanes.

Left unexplained is how last year was supposedly the warmest year on record (tied with 1998, actually) according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and yet (according to the Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory, which appears to be a division of NOAA), 2005 beat them both and 1998 had only 3 major hurricanes.

For this stupendous work, Al Gore was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Which has also been awarded, over the years to such luminaries as Yassir Arafat (linked with the infamous 1972 machine gunning of Israeli Olympic athletes) and Barack Hussein Obama, mmm, mmm, mmm, who was awarded his prize because of how awesome he was going to be. Still waiting on that one.

The "global warming movement" has had its share of other loons, and tremendous predictions, as well, including the infamous prediction about the Himalayan glaciers melting by 2035 -- which was not a scientific prediction, but had literally been copied from a World Wildlife Fund document which itself had been dependent upon a *newspaper article* (read: not peer-reviewed science such as they insist upon from everyone else!) dated in 1999.

Such happenings are but a few examples of a type of event which occurs so often within the global warming community that the phenomenon must be given a name.

Recall that in Thermodynamics, one is exposed to the concept of "Maxwell's demon" -- a critter who sits inside a box of a gas at equilibrium, and sorts all of the molecules as they go by, so that the hot molecules are on one side of the container, and all the cold molecules on the other side, as a way of illustrating the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics. Maxwell's demon works best in a closed system, where no matter can be exchanged between the system the outside world.

I suggest the concept of "Gore's Demon": a supernatural critter (not necessarily God, or a god, but just a cosmic smart-ass) who follows around Gore segregating Hot Weather from Cold, whenever Gore elects to speak about Global Warming, giving rise to the Gore Effect.

When not taunting Al Gore with his own ineptitude, Gore's Demon moonlights as a mental analogue of the Morton's Demon of creation-evolution debate fame, a bringer of confirmation bias, protector of the closed-minded. Instead of segregating hot and cold molecules, Gore's demon acts as a gatekeeper at the mind of Global Warming adherents, preventing them from seeing or recognizing any data which might disprove their fantasies of man-made global warming, or indeed, the prevalence of global warming at all. In this role, Gore's demon works best in the presence of closed minds.

Gore's Demon has apparently incarnated as another form, the newly-recognized Obama's demon, which simultaneously prevents coherent speech from leaving Obama's mouth (except when neutralized by the teleprompter amulet), and prevents any criticism of the President, or any recognition of his policy failures, from implanting in the minds of his supporters.

Obama's Demon apparently indwells the studios of MSNBC and several liberal websites, such as Democratic Underground and The Daily KOS.

Attempts to exorcize Obama's demon by exposure to images of Saint Sarah (Our Lady of the Tundra) have been reported, but with inconsistent results.

*PING* per our earlier email.

Apologize for the formatting slip near the end, resulting in red text.

It's past my bedtime as usual.

Be sure to use this phrase, both Gore's demon and Obama's demon as much as possible: ridicule is the most potent weapon and I want CONSERVATIVES to own this one!

Cheers!

Very true and Gore’s understanding of large thermodynamic systems is not worth squat. The Noble has been worthless for years now because of the awards given to Goron, Imarat, and Obuggery.

"No, truth is. Ridicule brings you down to their level."

Not at all. The one thing liberals/progressive absolutely cannot stand is to be laughed at, and it's particularly effective if the humor is based on truth. It's the equivalent of a bucket of water on the Wicked Witch of the West.
