All that you say certainly is plausible, but I just don’t agree that ego is behind this (at least not more than ego is behind the decision of anyone who thinks they can serve as President).
I think it was the response of the Tea Party to Bachmann that gave her the idea to even run. IOW, she wasn’t just sitting around her office thinking “I should be Prez.”
She has gotten a tremendous response to all her public speaking, including her yeoman’s work on going on so many talk radio shows constantly. She found herself, almost without trying, a tremendous fundraiser. The support she has *came to her,* in many ways, and no doubt that created a “draft” or groundswell in the grassroots type feeling.
In my view, all this makes her candidacy much more than a possible ego exercise. I don’t think she ever would had run had it not been for the quite remarkable response and support she has received over the last three years.
Even now, “ego” wouldn’t be what’s boosting her standings in the race. IOW, I do think that a goodly number of primary voters are carefully evaluating the candidates, and they’re not going to end up supporting someone they think has nothing to offer the country.
That said, there are still the outstanding issues on Bachman’s suitability for office. But I’ve just starting paying attention to her (as a candidate, that is; I’ve always thought her interviews were great), so am seeing how things unfold.
That is my point, she has no accomplishments, no leadership, no record, she is a legislative failure, but she loves to sell her self and promote herself in public speaking, her ego drives her, and when she found a crowd for her favorite pastime, she suddenly interpreted that as ‘Gee, I’m so effective that I should be President of the United States’.
I’m not saying she’s ready to be President. I’m watching. But on what’s driving her, for whatever relevance that has, I guess we’ll just have to agree to disagree on that.
