Chesapeake Energy Corporation has suspended the use of “fracking” for natural gas across Pennsylvania after thousands of gallons of toxic fluid began spilling from one of their wells

Apr 20, 2011 ... Marcellus Shale reserves could meet U.S. natural gas needs for 14 years, PSU geoscientist says. Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, 12/18/200

wow 14 yrs ... thats worth it

meanwhile over here unlimited supply but lets ignore it

The worldwide amounts of carbon bound in gas hydrates is conservatively estimated to total twice the amount of carbon to be found in all known fossil fuels on Earth.

But lets focus on our 14 yrs worth of sinkholes. Luckily drilling around fresh waterways is a bit less safe then nuke power so we are good.

So this doesn’t appear to be due to the process itself.

In the immortal words of Admiral Stockdale, "Where am I? What am I doing here?" (ok, so it's Phil Hartman as Stockdale)

How have I landed in a place where people do not like domestically produced energy, dislike drilling, worship mother Gaia, practice liberal elite NIMBYism, and propose mythical energy sources to fuel the economy? All over an article by a clueless Philly watermelon about a spill that took place AT THE WELL HEAD?

I have a friend who drove a brine tanker. One day he left the cap off the pipe coming out of the ground that he pumped brine into. Some idiot called the EPA and within the week it had blown up into a potential environmental disaster with the possibility of toxic gasses escaping.

Funny thing is that the cap itself was vented to let any gas escape.

“meanwhile over here unlimited supply but lets ignore it”

Where is “over here” with unlimited supply?

Don’t have time to google things for you. I’m on my evil iPhone so it’s hard to type

Short story is earth mantle is basically loaded with methane literally unlimited supplies.

At very basic level apart from mentle just google methane hydrate reserves .

But again it’s much smarter to pump fresh water to get at for 14 -yr worth

Goo

Your friend’s story makes two important points about this fracking article. One, there’s a difference between spills/emissions inherent in a technology, and spills caused by human error or lack of safety precautions. Two, “fracking” will soon be doomed anyway, as soon as the EPA and hysterical watermelons figure out how to shut it down — regardless of whatever actual risks there may be.
