If you are still looking for a cause to donate to this Christmas, allow me to make a suggestion. Todd, Bristol, Greta Van Susteren, and I recently traveled to Haiti to witness first hand the amazing work done by Rev. Franklin Grahams organization Samaritans Purse. Bristol wrote about our experiences on her Facebook page here.
In an effort to fight a deadly cholera outbreak in Haiti, Samaritans Purse has flown over a dozen flights carrying vital medical supplies to the two cholera treatment centers it has been running since the start of the outbreak. These centers, run by medical volunteers from the U.S., Canada, and the UK, have helped save the lives of nearly 5,000 patients.
The cholera treatment centers are part of a larger Samaritans Purse effort aimed at restoring the human dignity and economic independence of the Haitian people. Since the disastrous earthquake in January of this year, Samaritans Purse has spent $29 million on relief, helping more than half a million people by building 10,000 shelters (more than half of the shelters built in Haiti to date have been put up by Samaritans Purse); providing non-cholera related medical assistance (including 250 surgeries) to a total of 43,000 patients; providing clean drinking water to more than 75,000 people; and clearing the rubble from 179 building sites.
None of this would have been possible without the generosity of countless small donors. With all the blessings bestowed upon us in this great country of ours, we also have an opportunity to share those blessings with people who are less fortunate. Samaritans Purse is doing exactly that saving lives one person at a time.
If youd like to support the great work Samaritans Purse does in Haiti and around the world, please visit their website.
Below youll find some photos of our Haiti visit taken by Greta Van Susteren. They show what we saw at a temporary housing camp, at the cholera clinics in Bercy and Cité Soleil, and at a meeting where we helped to bring smiles to childrens faces by handing out shoeboxes filled with presents as part of Samaritans Purses worldwide Operation Christmas Child.
My Girl Madame VP bump!!
Last year, just before the earthquake, my city suffered the worst fire in its history. Hundreds of people were made homeless in one night. Arrangements were being made to raise funds to relocate them. Then the Haiti earthquake happened and our neighbors were forgotten in the outpouring of aid to Haiti. After interviewing all the tenants, fire inspectors discovered that a Haitian immigrant had awakened at 2:00 AM because of smoke. He promptly left his apartment and went to a friend’s house without calling the fire department, pulling the alarm or knocking on a door. The first call didn’t come in until 5:45 AM, almost three hours later. Everybody could have died from smoke inhalation. When he was asked why he didn’t do anything he said that’s not what they do in his country. Pardon me Sarah, but I’m all Haiti’d out.
Just like democrats and hippies: It’s the 87% that make the rest look bad...
Good Sarah. You give all you want out of your own pocket. But dont ask for help.
I have been to Havana, Cuba; and I have been to Haiti (several times and not by choice).
Folks, I am telling you this, and this is the pure solid truth!!!! Havana is a paradise in comparison In fact, there is NO comparison. That is how awful, backwards, dirty, and smelly Haiti is.
If you aren’t the worst FReeper amongst the 300,000 or so, I wish someone would point out to me who is.
Helping your American neighbors wasn't 'politically correct'...
The truth is hell.
Ask Juan Williams.
Also, you have been madly in love with Sarah for sometime. Not my problem.
I need not ask if you have ever been to Cuba and Haiti. It is obvious you have not and are operating out of ignorance.
Here I am.
Half Governor Palin should be ashamed for exploiting the tragedy of these miserable wretches for her political/professional gain.
“I’ve always wondered why Haiti is such a disaster and on the other side of the island is The Dominican Republic.”
Two different cultures.
But don’t let the Dominican Republic off so easy. Many of the big political crooks in Panama retire there. My guess is payola.
Also, I have had Dominicans as neighbors in the past. If they stepped in quicksand I wouldn’t save them.
“Here I am.”
Thank you my fine friend.
If you ever come to Panama, give me a shout.
Is there a lot of quick sand where you live?
“Is there a lot of quick sand where you live?”
Too be honest, I’m not sure what “a lot” indicates. But I could guide them to areas where there is quicksand.
“Too be honest, Im not sure what a lot indicates. But I could guide them to areas where there is quicksand.”
The Panamanian chamber of commerce isn’t happy with you just now, quicksand has never really been a selling point.
Still, if Sarah Palin wants to help people at Christmas, the less deserving they are the better, right? Doing for the least of our brothers and sisters...
Merry Christmas Gatun, stay out of the quicksand.
So Mr. Obama is a half Senator, right? Did he ever appear two days in a row at his office? Has he set a record for most vacations, rounds of golf, parties, junkets and so on. So you can read minds and know what Governor Palin’s motivations are? You must be rich from being able to intuit what Warren Buffet and Steve Jobs are up to.
“if Sarah Palin wants to help people at Christmas, the less deserving they are the better”
Please, jpt, she can help all those whatevers she wants out of her own pocket.
Since my family, relatives, and friends don’t need handouts, my handouts go first to my pets for their food and medical treatments and then to me, me, me, me, and more me.
Throughout my life have given to charities that are nothing more than crooked enterprises, Haiti being always a big scandal. Unless it is direct to a needy person, I have stopped giving to charities. Period.
“Merry Christmas Gatun, stay out of the quicksand.”
Merry Chirstmas to you too, jpf. Have a safe one. My best to you.
