Beck Bashing or Flock Defending?

Over the last six or nine months I have been growing ever more concerned over Glenn Beck and his Evangelical and Conservative followers. I have not been alone, there have been countless other Christian Laymen and Pastors have expressed the same concern when Mr. Beck started talking about God, Jesus and Faith.

My question is should we as Christians who believe in Salvation by Grace Alone, through Faith Alone in the Person and Work of Christ Alone, for God’s Glory Alone have anything to do with Beck in the areas of Faith and Religion?

Mr. Beck is a confessing Mormon, and his theology and false history leak out during his programs.

Example #1:

I am particularly interested in the part where Glenn Beck accuses the 4th century Church of persecuting the Jewish sect that disappeared at about the time of the sacking of Jerusalem in 70 A.D.

The reason is plain. He hates the Christian Church. He wants to establish that their proclamation of the Divinity of Christ was established only by hiding the real truth about Jesus. Except the Essenes didn't say anything about Jesus as far as I know. He is also trying to establish that just as the Dead Sea Scrolls and the supposed truth they were hiding were kept hidden until the 19th century, it is no surprise that the writings shown Joseph Smith were hidden until he was shown them in the 19th Century.

I feel compelled to give Glenn Beck's side, so here is a link to someone defending what Beck said:

I recall Glenn confessing that if he wanted Tanya, he had to have a religion and hers was as good as any other.

Or something like that.

Glenn today is the result of a hell of a lot more introspection and I'm sure personal sacrifice and spiritual commitment, then perhaps most born again Christians.

Glenn calls America back to God ..... what's wrong with that?

I do not at all like Beck’s Evangelical preaching but I still listen to him almost every day. The Evangelical stuff bothers me greatly and detracts from everything he is presenting. The results of the research he is presenting is 100% spot on!

?Is it Mormonism that is an issue, Glenn Beck? or Glenn Beck touting Mormonism?

“The results of the research he is presenting is 100% spot on!”

A. He is not an Evangelical.
B. How can he be 100% spot on in research when he missed events by 250 years and assumes events occurred which could not have occurred?

Common sense tells us that we should take the very unstable Mr. Beck with a large grain of salt.

If he says something you agree with, fine; but never accept his words without scrutiny.

Beck is full of himself. But he is a good watch at 5pm.

May I add that I completely respect Glenn Beck and I am proud to be a 9/12’er and a Tea Party activist.

I pledge to protect and defend The Constitution with my life, my fortune (I have almost nothing) and my sacred honor!

Thats my impression as well. Not necessary to agree with every last word out of his mouth. He is doing a tremendous job with the gifts and opportunity God has given him.

His life could easily have gone another way.

We'd all have been the less for it. God doesn't use perfect people, he uses people who are willing.

You recall incorrectly. Glenn and Tanya joined the Church at the same time.

I am so tired of these religious pissing matches about Glenn.

Enough already.

He is trying to warn us that this is greater than mortal issues here, that it has greater ramifications.

Even a sinner like me gets it, I also get he is trying to remind us (or renew?) that it was devine providence that lead our founding fathers to come up with a document that let us know liberty came from the almighty, not from man.

Leave him alone, get right on your own, and I think we will be ok.

I shutter to think where we would be without him....

I am all about Glenn Beck’s thesis that the USA is become godless, thus, a godless government and the rise of hedonism. To first call the faithful to life and to prayer, to take God back into our homes, our goals, and back into the public square, is not a bad thing. God uses those inside and outside the Church for His purposes. Who else in this hour has the courage to call us to arms?

I have both praise and condemnation for Beck.

Praise - What a fantastic American History Teacher he could be. I could sit for hours listening to him discuss the Founding Fathers, and the different events, both good and bad, in our history that made us what we are. He has reached out to an audience untouched by Limbaugh, Hannity, Levin, and all the rest – and that is minorities and women, and the under 20 crowd, and American History buffs. He truly loves America, and like him or not, he is a Patriot. He is also a pretty good author.

Condemnation. – Way too much of a Libertarian. What good is it for him to reach out to all those new people, if he just convinces them that both Parties are evil? I heard him say a few weeks back that what we shouldn’t do is put the Republicans back in power. Yes, he said that.
I’m a Christian, so it doesn’t bother me when he tells his audience to get down on their knees and pray for our country, but for those who are not, I could see that being uncomfortable. However I don’t hear him preach to you like a Mormon at your front door, so that’s a positive.

I agree that Beck has added much to the conservative movement. But we ought not stand back while he lies and insults the entire Church of Jesus Christ.

“devine providence that lead our founding fathers to come up with a document that let us know liberty came from the almighty, not from man.”

Beck believes the document is inspired, on par with the Bible (which would not be saying much, from Beck’s point of view). So maybe he believes it is more inspired than the Bible.

***God doesn’t use perfect people, he uses people who are willing.***

Great quote.

I hope FReepers will stop looking for saviors in every man & woman who steps up to the challenge of speaking out ....only to become vehemently disillusioned with minute differences of opinion, or human frailties.

Glenn is both driven & courageous in putting his reputation, family and sanity on the line....in defense of the Constitution and bringing attention to important facts that the MSM is hiding

but he is one human being - he knows he is not GOD!!!

respectfully, Sod.

“What a fantastic American History Teacher he could be”

You must not have watched the Dead Sea Scrolls video or read the “defense” of Beck. Beck distorts history to promote his religion. Sadly, evangelicals like David Barton have done the same when they have tried to portray ALL the founders as Christians. Jefferson was a pagan.

And front door Mormons do the same as Beck, try to sound like an evangelical, until you call them on it. The whole Dead Sea Scrolls thing was to slander the Church. He can no longer claim ignorance. It is deliberate.

” I heard him say a few weeks back that what we shouldn’t do is put the Republicans back in power. Yes, he said that.”

In what way have the Republicans in Washington learned their lesson from their last time in power? How is Boehner-Cantor-McConnell better than Ginrich-Delay-Dole?

Liberal Republicanism is what is wrong with this country and the rats are just a result.

1970s Nixon-Ford-Rockefeller liberalism brought us Carter
1990s Bush Sr- Dole-Ginrich brought us and kept us Clinton
and 2000s Bush-Hastert-Lott-Gingrich brought us OBAMA

clearly we need to break the cycle before we allow the GOP anywhere near power, RIGHT?
