Social media wrap: The occasional wit and wisdom of Fred Thompson
The Los Angeles Times ^ | July 8, 2010 | Craig Howie

Fred Thompson, former GOP senator, presidential candidate, actor and prolific Tweeter, is usually one of the more entertaining pols out there in social media. Here are some of his recent bons mots:

Hillary in Kiev, Ukraine: prosperity should be "equally spread". No - doesn't work. That's why you didn't speak in Kiev, USSR. #ftrs #tcot

Jimmy Buffet: oil spill Bush's fault. Why trust his opinion? He can't even keep track of a shaker of salt. #ftrs #tcot

Justice Kennedy: won't retire while Obama in office. So we're safe, barring accident, illness, or Rolling Stone interview. #ftrs #tcot

Obama: US and Israel share an "unbreakable" bond. Obama should know. He's been trying to break it for months. #ftrs #tcot

AG Holder: AZ immig law "crossed constitutional line". Wish he were that concerned about crossing border lines. #ftrs #tcot

Justice Dept getting tough on illegal immig. Unfortunately, getting tough on people defending....

...the law, not people breaking it. #ftrs #tcot

Biden to Afghan leaders: "get in the game". Kinda hard to do that when Obama keeps threatening to take his ball and go home. #ftrs #tcot

Def Sec Gates: all reporter contacts to be cleared by Pentagon. Thought we already had Rules of Engagment for hostile forces? #ftrs #tcot

LA Parish President waits 3 hrs for Biden, who talks 30 sec & leaves. But when talking with Joe, 30 seconds FEELS like 3 hours. #ftrs #tcot

I notice that Fred Thompson is now doing “Reverse Mortgage” advertisements. I’ve always thought that to be a pretty cheesy business and am sad to see him doing that.

Why? It allows those 62 years of age and over to take a certain portion of their home equity out and not pay house payments. Potential borrowers have to go through goverment-approved counseling before a loan can be made. Of course it’s not for everyone, but no one loan product is.

Funny!

He’d make an interesting WH spokesman for the next Republican administration. Not that he’d want the job, but oh what fun to watch.

Novak: "Fred Thompson drop-out rumors traced to Romney campaign"

Said Novak: "The rumors were traced in part to Mitt Romney's campaign,
trying to stir up strife between McCain and Thompson
."

"Despite outspending his rivals by huge margins throughout the primaries,
(Mitt Romney, Carpetbagger UT,CA,MA,NH,Mexico) lost Iowa, South Carolina, Florida and California.
The only primaries he won were in Michigan, where Dad was governor; LDS states;
and a few states on Super Tuesday in which his California-obsessed rivals
couldn't spare the cash to advertise.
Only John Connolly in 1968 had a worse cash-to-delegates ratio.
And John McCain rightly did not like Romney's tactics during the primaries.
(W)hen (Romney's early leads) started slipping away, he resorted to unfair,
distorted, scorched-earth negative ads, betting that his opponents couldn't
afford to spend enough for the truth to catch up to his charges."

There is nothing unethical about reverse mortgages. In fact, it is the only way some older people can obtain the cash to afford to stay in their homes.

LOS ANGELES — More than 1 million U.S.
households could lose their homes to
foreclosure this year, as lenders work their
way through a huge backlog of borrowers
who have fallen behind on their loans,
according to RealtyTrac, a foreclosure
tracking service.
