Alan Dershowitz Finally Endorses a Republican
The American Thinker ^ | June 18, 2010 | Richard Baehr

Alan Dershowitz, the long time Professor of Law at Harvard University, and a self-avowed liberal Democrat, took his time before he found a Republican he considered worth supporting -- just under 72 years to be exact. But on Wednesday in Chicago, Dershowitz endorsed his former law student, Joel Pollak, the Republican candidate for Congress in Illinois' 9th district.

Dershowitz, who has taught U.S. Senators, Governors, and Congressmen, described Pollak as the single most promising political talent he has ever met.

Dershowitz has for many years, been a passionate and dedicated supporter of Israel, and he has fought the growing sentiment among many liberal Jews and academics that Israel is the guilty party in the Middle East conflict. Dershowitz's endorsement of Pollak was facilitated by the actions and positions of the incumbent Congresswoman whom Pollak is challenging.

Pollak is running against Jan Schakowsky, who has been closely connected to the Chicago and Illinois Democratic machine for her entire political career , whose voting record makes her one of the most left wing members of Congress, and who has willingly served as the queen bee of J-Street, the new group formed to give political cover to Barack Obama among liberal Jews as he pounds away at Israel.

I was waiting patiently for you the post this...LOL

There is a LOT for information on the candidate’s website:

www.pollakforcongress.com

I’ve been following this young man for a while, ever since he took on the evil Barney Frank. He’s just what we conservatives need!

This is the article linked within the AT piece. It will make conservatives want to stand up and cheer....and DONATE!

Whatever. While Dershowitz is a smart guy and a staunch supporter of Israel, I will never forgive him (and Shapiro) for getting OJ off. It was obvious to anyone with a brain (and no racial agenda) that OJ was guilty. Further, OJ offed a fellow Jew. But, I guess that just didn’t matter...it was all about performing the legal resurrection of the century. Just one more reason I’m glad I never became an attorney.

I blame an uninformed public. If Americans knew their rights as jurors it wouldn’t matter how crooked a judge, prosecutor, or defense attorney was.

I think it’s realistic to give Johnnie Cochran most of the “credit” for that fiasco.

He finally endorses a republican who does not stand a chance of winning. Oh well, maybe the young man can gain some credibility for future runs.

Just an FYI...(had to check your profile to see your state. lol)

This particular area of Chicago just might be up for grabs. It’s my bf’s district. There is a heavily Jewish section of it that are the kind of Jewish libs that would follow Dershowitz off a cliff. Lot’s of blue collar, as well, the types who might not mind the sort of guy with the stones to tell off Barney Frank. LOL It is hard for people who either don’t live in the district or are unfamiliar with it to understand how HUGE this endorsement is for Pollak. It will be a fundraising magnet for him. Moreover, Dershowitz is not only going to raise money for him, but campaign for him.

I would have paid a fair sum of money to have been a fly on the wall from Schakowsky when she heard this news. She must have hit the ceiling and left a dent.

:)

I don’t see it.I used to live in that district (Sidney Yates represented it then)in the late 70’s and early 80’s before I moved to Atlanta. The Jewish person is mainly leftish and the whole Evanston Northwestern U and Rogers Park area skews so far to the left I really don't see it I am saddened to see some of the areas in the west that used to be represented by Phil Crane now turned blue. Very sickening. I don't know what happened to illinois since I left. Maybe it would right itself if I moved back!

Last March, I emailed my resume to Joel, and I asked whether I could have a part-time campaign job. I met Joel and his campaign manager, Ashley Kain. About 10 days later, she emailed me and said that they can’t afford to hire anyone.

Unmentioned in the posted article is the salient fact that young Mr. Pollak was a law student of Prof. Dershowitz at Harvard and was a research assistant for The Dersh for a couple of books that Dershowitz wrote. Obviously, there is a personal friendship there between the mentor and his prodigy, strong enough for Dershowitz to do the unprecedented (for him) and cross party lines in this case, especially when he can discern a difference between Pollak and the Democrat on the Middle East.

So are you thinking that Dershowitz’s endorsement of Pollak is earth-shaking news? It may be a big step for Dersh personally, but, unlike other Jewish ‘Rats (e.g., the NJDC), he had been critical of Obama lately. I don't think it will have much if any effect on the outcome of that congressional race, because most of Dershowitz’ buddies in the district - and since this is Chicago and vicinity, he probably doesn't have very many - will maintain their addiction to to the ‘Rats.

As you point out, Daisyjane69, Pollak has already made impressive moves to get favorable national publicity that Republicans running in “hopeless” districts don’t usually get. However, Schakowsky won the district by more that 3 to 1 in ‘08. Granted, that was a big ‘Rat year, but it’s still the same district now. A Pollak win would be a monumental upset.

I’m tired of all these stories in which avowed lefties finally get half a clue. I’m not breaking out the noisemakers and funny hats unless they have a total conversion. But I will twirl my index finger in the air and say “whoopie.” Once.

Notice that Dershowitz endorsed his prodigy in a district where his cause is just about hopeless. So there is likely little price to pay with his leftist Jewish cronies.

As for young Mr. Pollak, even if he is unsuccessful this year as to be expected, he might have a much better chance at a House seat in 2012 after redistricting - with a map more favorable to the GOP(?) - takes place.
