Homeowners the Next Target of Oil Spill Mania
Nanny State Liberation Front ^ | June 16, 2010 | NSLF

While the big story in the news remains the BP Deep Horizon oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico, there is another 'crisis' brewing in our own backyards. Once the dust settles in the Gulf, be prepared for President Obama and the green fringe to set its sights on homeowners that use gasoline-powered tools to maintain their pristine landscapes and annually commit spills greater that the Exxon Valdez.

According to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), "Each year, more than 17 million gallons of fuel are spilled during the refueling of power lawn and garden equipment." The DEC list of 'yard tools of mass destruction' includes:

While the DEC does not call for an immediate ban on gasoline-powered yard equipment, the Earth Institute at Columbia University in New York has taken the initiative to guilt homeowners in to replacing their oil-dependent lawnmowers with those propelled by electricity or human energy, namely, antique hand-push mowers ... These dumbasses must not be aware that half the nation’s electricity comes from BURNING coal. I’ll stick with my gas powered ride on thank you very much. I don’t think there is an extension cord long enough to move 2 acres.

His maarxist answer is simple:

Take your 2 acres away from you. “You have too much land” will be the mantra here.

They’ll make it so that your property IS reachable by a single extension cord.

You can have my gas powered tools when you pry them from my cold dead hands.... Honestly, how can someone be concerned about my lawn tractor which runs for an hour and a quater once a week? Compare that to the energy used to heat my home or power my cars... Environmentalists seem to run around looking for something to worry about...

Gee, these nanny statists would really have hated by father. He use to save all his old motor oil and spread it on the dirt road in front of our house in the summer to keep the dust down.

Yeah, or move them! :-)

Sounds like an arbitrary number to me. I never spill more than a few drops and that evaporates off the mower.

They got a good start on this by forcing ethanol into the gasoline blend. That stuff is murder on small engines.

...to set its sights on homeowners that use gasoline-powered tools to maintain their pristine landscapes and annually commit spills greater that the Exxon Valdez.

Dumbass Governor Ted Kulongoski-D-OR signed legislation mandateing 10% ethanol fuel be sold. People selling lawn equipment were recommending that the tools be run dry, or that extra fuel be dumped out, lest it destroy some of the plastic components in the fuel system.

Also, I understand that there are or will be provisions in the energy bill for a friendly agent from your federal government to come into your home for an "energy audit."

They are well aware of it.

They are against that, too.

Nowhere in Alinsky's Rules for Radicals does it say they can't be hypocrites.

The only rule is "get your way at any cost."

Where is the proof? Where are the calculations? Data? Before believing any numbers from government or corporation I would like to see how that agency arrived at its conclusion.

Reminds me of a conversation I had in business law in high school. The concept of seizing private property by government to redistribute to another party (think strip mall), or to build public facilities for the "common good" so offended me I asked my teacher, "And if the current owners do not want to sell or leave regardless of the offer being made?"

My teacher replied, "What other option would they have?" I replied, "Well, they could resist."

The look of shock and horror in her eyes and on her face to my reply was truly a kodak moment. I thought her head was going to explode.

Running them “dry” only allows the dribble left to turn to glue and gum up the passages in the carb.

Yeah, but not the point. Enviro-greenie good intentions resulting in people dumping gasoline on the ground was the point.

What a great way to produce more jobs!

We can require that only state licensed personnel refuel gasoline powered lawn equipment. Your mower runs out of gas, call the state. The state sends over a member of the local gas-filler-upper union who is trained and licensed to refuel your mower. Presto! Changeo! Your mower is refueled and ready to mow. (And you get a bill for $5 in gas and $95 in refuelling charges.)

Of course, when he ‘accidently’ spills an oz of gas, he will have to call another member of the state licensed gas-cleaner-upper union. Presto! Changeo! The environment is saved. (And, you get a bill for $200 in cleaner-upper fees.)

Why stop there?

Since there was a fuel spill, you’ll need to get an inspection of the fuel system conducted by the state licensed fuel systems inspector-checker union. (And, you get a bill for $100 per item.)

And, we could create a bunch more jobs by requiring all deficiencies found by the inspectors to be repaired by the state licensed gasoline fuel system fixer-upper union. (And, you get a bill.)

And, of course, you have to empty the fuel system before it can be inspected and repaired. The fuel system emptyer-outer union to the rescue. (Another Bill.)

Now that your mower is fully inspected, repaired, and ready to mow, you’ll need to call the state to send out the gas filler-upper union guy...

But, think of the union jobs created.

That does not even add up.

It certainly doesn’t, who might be the giant statistical manipulator.

The price of gas being what it is, not one drop escapes my scrutiny during refueling. I use a large fuel filter funnel so I can see what I’m doing.

So, did anyone bother to do the statistics on fueling errors at gas stations, which I’m betting, exceed lawnmower errors by a very large factor.

Folks, I hate to say it, Oh sorry, there’s that hate word again, must be offending someone already, but truth doesn’t seem to phase the environuts, there is one thing that will phase them, but that is for another day. Maybe between now and then they will wake up to reality.
