I joined my wife to watch the olympics, and suddenly NBC switched from hockey coverage to a Bob Costas set piece and then to a nauseating vignette about this coastal islands logging industry. What gives? what does this have to do about sports? I understand that about 25 years ago the networks/IOC decided that male viewers were inelastic operators and would watch sports no matter how detestable-think synchronized swimming- but that female viewers were the target growth demographic. Out went live boxing coverage, and in went taped "readers digest" excerpts hosted by John Tesh in a variety show studio replete with as much air time for profiles as for real sports. But seeing logging in Canada was too much for me. So I went upstairs and put on Sean

NBC sucks! Almost all FLUFF and very little real event coverage. Some of the WORST Olympic coverage I have ever tried to watch!

Originally from BC, there is a “canadian content” policy with any broadcast through music or video as a law. Believe me, I got sick and tired of listening to the canadian bands Guess Who and Loverboy (except for Nickelback) It doesn’t apply to NBC because it’s US operated. The logging nonsense is just to show how pretty BC is.
Not to mention Bob Costas' hair.

I had a rant posted earlier about how NBC has given the shaft to premier event in the Olympics, Ladies skating. They are only going to show the top 8 competitors. While they are showing some BS piece on logging and other taped events we are missing LIVE figure skating. I would think NBC would be showing nothing but skating tonite to draw in the women viewers.

Imagine what NBC will be doing 4 years from now in Sochi Russia (the next winter olympics site). It will probably make you yearn for a Canadian logging documentary. :)
Their conservative working class in a liberal world.... however, its interesting that NBC would air this cutting of trees, but the dude that’s planted 2.5 million trees plants 1500 a day? We can’t afford the overtime, planting 187 trees per hour beats willow shoot workers mitigating the habitat for the Prebles Meadow Jumping Mouse. Never the truth...always the agenda.
The games have been great. It’s just too bad there isn’t a C-SPAN version where you could just watch the raw video without all the commentary. Hopefully ABC/ESPN will win the bid for the next ones. As long as they keep Chris Berman away.
The other day the skiing commentator informed us that all the members of the Finnish Ski team, the ‘Finnish Mafia’, speak Finnish. That and after a week I still don’t get the scoring in curling. I just know we suck at it.

As far as I can tell NBC has the rights for the 2012 London Summer games but the next two in 2014 (Sochi Russia) and 2016 (Rio) are still up for grabs and there is talk ABC/ ESPN want them. We shall see.
My favorite color commentary so far was from Cammi Granado who wondered how Chinese women’s hockey coach Hannu Saintula was able to communicate all those “english numbers” he’d written on his chalkboard to his players.
I hope Costas and the gang all get food poisoning in London and have to go to a British hospital.

Maybe they’re leading up to how good national healthcare has treated logging injuries. Maybe they’re ratings are in the toilet as is and they don’t care.

We're on the west coast and it just frosts me to have to wait until after 11 PM to see the skating!
my son and i have watched quite a lot of the coverage on NBC and what is really annoying both of us is the obnoxious commentators who keep slamming the u.s. athletes. you don’t hear it much in the figure skating, but the skiing and sledding events....hooo boy. this one guy is just constantly saying how “that first run was just not good enough and this person will never get to the podium.” yeah right, he said it about bode miller and that guy got the gold for the event. another one at the bobsled just kept ragging on the american teams so bad, and the women won the silver. my son was so irritated with it he asked me to mute the sound. i can live with the delay and ignore the stupid extras (interviews, human interest stories, explore canada crap) but an american announcer hacking on the american athletes is just off the hook crappy.
You are wasting your time. NBC showed 3 performances from 8 pm - 11 pm Eastern time, one of them was a tape delayed performance. After that they are only going to show the final group.

Worth staying up till 12. All great performances with 2 historic.
there must be a way to get live games....CBC can do it...we just have to figure out how to get the CBC...
I would love raw coverage- show me all the competitors. I want to see all the ice skaters, snow-boarders, whatever...Don’t jump around. Don’t switch to something else. Oh, and don’t tape delay it, when it’s in the UNITED STATES. I gave up on watching in 2002 when they were tape delaying figure skating which had been live at 4pm and showing it at 10pm, when I worked early in the morning. A second attempt in 2008 was ditched when I was sucked in to watching a women’s cycling race (for the scenery as much as the sport) and after 5 minutes, they cut away to a volleyball game. NBC is the WORST.
