Comedian Stephen Colbert won a Grammy last night at the 2010 Grammy Awards show for Best Comedy Album. The album is entitled "A Colbert Christmas: The Greatest Gift of All!" After taking the stage, Mr. Colbert told the audience: "This is a Christmas album, so obviously I should thank Jesus Christ for having such a great birthday."

His comment seemed a little tongue-in-cheek and was met with mild laughter from the audience. He should indeed thank Jesus Christ, who is truly the greatest gift of all, but of course his remark was most likely said not in thanks, but in the interest of comedy ...

Jesse Jackson, Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, Al Gore, and Barack Obama also won Grammies.

When is Stephen going to brag about having a Nobel Peace Prize?

I'm not a big fan, but before you jump to conclusions. (yeah, I know I'm on FR)... Look at some of his past interviews... One example..

Stephen Colbert on Religion
Would your family all sing carols on Christmas Eve?
Sure, we’d process through the house, and we still do it. My family is 50 people now — nieces and nephews and that sort of thing — and we process from the youngest to the oldest. The youngest puts the baby Jesus in the manger on Christmas Eve and we sing “Silent Night.” It’s very traditional.

Does faith still play a big part in your life?
Very much. I am highly variable in my devotion. From a doctrinal point of view or a dogmatic point of view or a strictly Catholic adherent point of view, I’m first to say that I talk a good game, but I don’t know how good I am about it in practice. I saw how my mother’s faith was very valuable to her and valuable to my brothers and sisters, and I’m moved by the words of Christ, and I’ll leave it at that.

But you do teach Sunday school?
I teach the seven year olds. I’m the catechist for their first communion.

That makes his remark even more abhorrent. Kerry and Pelosi are practicing Catholics too. I'm sure Colbert is a lefty baby-butcherer lover.

He's dead to me after what he did to George W. Bush at the White House correspondents' dinner a few years ago. He crossed the line and threshold of comedy and decorum with his acerbic tongue and vitriol.

I guess Colbert won't get an Academy Award for his election night performance, since he wasn't acting. http://daletoons.blogspot.com/2009/01/inderision-08.html

I tend to agree, as I was watching that last night I said to my wife... I don’t think he meant it to be a joke but it came across as awkward. Half the audience laughed and he had this puzzled look on his face as if to say, well I didn’t quite mean it that way.

Of course he did say it, so I guess we’ll never know what’s inside of him.

I assume the remark was in reference to Kathy Griffin's acceptance speech at some awards show in which thanked "everybody but Jesus, who had nothing to do with winning the award" a couple of years ago.

Neither Colbert or Griffin were funny in their references to Jesus.

That’s one assumption. My assumption is he made a Christmas album and thank Jesus for the opportunity. We goot people on here assigning people to hell, showing why only half the audience laughed. Lighten up.
