We have rules about sources that MUST be excerpted. Hope this helps.

I dont mind personal but I'm so tired of bloggers.

I'd love to filter the blog pimps too.

I think bloggers should be required to post a minimum of 100 or so words of their “stuff” so we can judge if it’s worth going to their site.

Amen!

Then the blog pimps change the title and regurgitate [in more ways than one].

Some don't even change the title or regurgitate. They just link the original MSM page.

Here is an excellent example. And it’s done repeatedly.

You were saying ...

I’m going to start doing that.

We need to be more aggressive in combating them.

That's a good idea. I don't do it all the time, because sometimes I don't want to take the effort, but I do it now and then... :-)

Besides, whatever is on a website will disappear later on, but here on Free Republic (as long as we keep it going) having it "documented" on the thread, keeps it up and visible, even after the blog dies and goes away, which is useful for us documenting stuff...

But not that you have to leave out the important parts.

When I excerpt something, I try to choose the most important 300 words. It’s more work, but that way the information is here, and you don’t have to go to the other source that might change their links or might be blocked for some sites.

I understand the exerpt rules.

But why not exerpt the MEAT of the article, in place of the first paragraph that usually has little or no details?

In other words, if you are going to post an article, make sure that your exerpt matches the headline.

That’s all I am saying.

If anybody has a problem with any blogger links please contact the moderator and let them be the judge. But be mindful of the bloggers who provide timely, beneficial posts which further the conserative cause or benefit the conversation within some of the other catagories. Considering that this is a blogger forum, if it looks like someone has gone to the trouble of locating a good video/ article with some unique commentary then cut him/her some slack. If it’s a “drive-by blogger” then call him on it. We need to encourage excellence in blogging.

Considering that this is a blogger forum

A blogger forum?

I thought it was a NEWS forum.

I didn’t say sub-forum.

And I wasn’t referring to this particular sub-forum.

Little whiny blogger has gone and posted his own thread defending the use of blog-pimping.

Should be fun.

FreeRepublic has many options that allow all users to view specific topic categories the way they want.

For example, if you want to view all categories, link to this page:
http://www.freerepublic.com/tag/*/index

If you, however, don’t want to see blogs, chit chat, religion, etc, link to this page:
http://www.freerepublic.com/tag/news-forum/index

If you are only interested in a specific subject, let’s say 2nd Amendment Issues, you can also sort just by keywords like this:
http://www.freerepublic.com/tag/banglist/index?tab=articles

The architecture of this site allows for the end user to see the content he wants in the way he wants more than most other forum platforms. This site also has XML feeds on which, you can use various widges around the web to actually feed you information you want. For example, if you want a feed of just breaking news articles, you can link to it using the RSS link at the bottom of the page like this:
http://www.freerepublic.com/tag/breaking-news/feed.rss

You can even use these feeds to display custom content on a mobile device that is formatted best for that device if you like. For example, if you have a Blackberry, you can use this app with the RSS feed of the content you like.
http://www.newsgator.com/Individuals/NewsGatorGo/Default.aspx

Speaking of mobile devices, we’ve had a lot of reports from members that the architecture of this site allows it to work far better on most mobile devices than other forum platforms.

We have one member who has actually created a desktop AIR application he uses to give him a custom view of the site’s content he wants to see using these feeds.

As you can see, you can do a lot with this site and filter what you want. This isn’t a one-size fits all site. A little exploring and you can get exactly the content you want delivered to you the way you want.

I just received a PM from iloveamerica1980, who just joined FR and has been pimping his blog here.

iloveamerica1980 — I’d appreciate if you didn’t PM me to defend your blog pimping.
