How did this show get past the ABC censors? How did the folks in Hollywood—good Progressives, all—let this program sneak onto the air? Were movie studio heads so distracted by attending yet another Washington fund raiser that a genuine alternate viewpoint was allowed to air?
We may never know, but we can be grateful for the remake of V. Because it turns upside down every well known Left Coast trope.
A Catholic priest (Joel Gretsch) has doubts. No, not those kinds. He distrusts the milky language of the Visitors and says so in his sermons. A Monsegnior insists the Vs are part of Heaven’s plan. The priest answers, “Rattlesnakes are God’s creatures, too. Doesn’t mean they’re good for us.” The Monsegnior counters that the people are grateful for the Vs appearance. Reply: “Their world’s in bad shape, father. Who wouldn’t welcome a savior right now?…[And] under the right conditions and with enough time, gratitude can morph into worship. Or worse. Devotion.”
He admonishes his credulous flock, “We’re all so quick to jump on the bandwagon…but let us at least examine it and make sure it’s something we want to get on.” The strangest thing of all is that the priest is portrayed sympathetically! There’s not a choir boy in sight.

Another “It’s a cookbook!” moment?

It’s a great show and extremely well done, with excellent actors. I can’t imagine how it got past the Obama censors, though.
Watch the first part of the pilot show...there’s a scene where Ana (”The One”) is being welcomed and is walking down a wide hallway in a formal building of some sort with a policeman standing on one side of the hallway, another policeman on the other, and a couple of her retinue walking behind her. She has her head up. It is an exact restaging of the photo where Obama is slithering along a hallway in the Capitol Bldg shortly after the inauguration, his head stuck up in the air, his eyes semi-closed, and a weird smile on his face. Even the placement of the police officers is identical.
Ha! Great job!
ABC may join Fox News at the whipping post.
The 1983 “V” is even more blatant in it’s depiction of similarities between the Nazi’s and the Visitors. I thought that even with the old technology special effects, it did a better job of giving us a wake up slap in the face.
What is a funny thought is of combining the two totally different versions of V, especially V for Vendetta.
And I think it will happen soon, the population of America will all don the mask, and we will observe the fall of tyranny.
I like quite a few aspects of "V for Vendetta". Of course, the bad guys are a rightwing Christian totalitarian dictatorship, and I think that is laughable. But the idea that when voters make bad choices, they can get saddled with oppressive government, is a valuable point. The idea that people can take back the power through massive demonstration is a good point. And the idea that people should not fear their government, but that governments should fear their people, is a very good point.

The female lead V sure is attractive, tho. I wonder if seduction might not get them faster to their goals? Hehe.

So now we can expect the V to be portrayed as Republicans and Ana’s boss will bear a striking resemblence to Sarah Palin.

IIRC, only three installments of the show with be aired in the fall and, depending on its success, it will start again in March. The first 3 installments, one tomorrow night and the last next week, have obviously already been produced. If they are successful, future installments will build on the story...not send it in a completely different direction.
Just as conservatives can easily see parallels to Obama, liberals could just as easily see them as parallels to a Republican administration. Those in power always claim they are working for the greater good while their opposition sees evil lurking. Think “blood for oil” or “voodoo economics.” Probably the best argument for an an Obama comparison is the fawning media which we’ve never seen for Republicans, but DUmmies continually make the ridiculous claim of media bias in favor of Republicans. Liberals might view the show as Republican invaders from outer space with the reporter being from Fox News.
I don’t think the writers at ABC are conscioulsy attempting to draw comparisons between V and O, but it’s nearly impossible not to do so when viewers see the obvious lies and distortions being peddled by the current administration which are rarely questioned by the MSM. My hope is that a few people who support O will watch V for entertainment value, notice the unintended allegories, and make better choices at the polls.
OTOH, I have to agree with others here that the writers may refocus their efforts to draw negative parallels to conservatives. The easiest way to do it will be to portray conservative politicians as collaborators with the aliens, not to mention a “gullible Christians” angle. I don’t know how many epsisodes are already “in the can,” but it shouldn’t take too long to find out if V starts covering for O.

I read somewhere it was written to be Bush Bashing.
Either way does a disservice to the "original" V (V = Victory)...a fighter against oppression who fomented an uprising against an oscumbo-style/NAZI-style dictatorship in England.
"O is a V" or "Obama is a V" is a little closer to the truth. The V's (V = Visitors) in this series are illegal aliens from a far-off country just like oscumbo....
He needs a face peel!
