Clearly, we are nearer to the former of Mr. Jefferson’s options than to the latter, but we must begin to move as quickly as possible toward the latter and away from the former.

Our betters in government are in the habit of enjoying special circumstances for themselves – a special retirement system, for example – and under current language they will not be subject to any of the provisions of the new health care system Democrats have crafted alone in back rooms, should one pass the House and Senate.

We don't need this. We already have what it basically says in the Fourteenth amendment, section one.

"1. All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.

It says, basically, that EVERYONE is EQUAL and that all laws apply EQUALLY to everyone.

Now, I suggest that rather than an "amendment" at the national level we instead focus on a Usurper Detection Law at the "state" level. If just one or two states passed this type of law, the legal war can begin between the President and the states on the merits of whether or not his "eligibility" issue can be dealt with by the states individually.

An amendment process takes years. A state law can be passed in a week.
