House Jumps One Hurdle [DEMS HAVE THE VOTES]

November 7, 2009 House Jumps One Hurdle

By DAVID M. HERSZENHORN

The House approved the rule governing debate of the big health care legislation by a vote of 242 to 192, suggesting but not guaranteeing that Democrats would have the votes to pass the bill itself later on Saturday.

The House Debate

Fifteen Democrats joined all 177 Republicans in opposition. One Democrat did not vote.

As a result the Democrats seemed to have a comfortable margin, with 24 more yes votes than they need for final passage of the bill.

The speaker pro tempore, Representative John D. Dingell, Democrat of Michigan, announced the tally.

The Democrats currently control 258 of 435 seats in the House, and with 218 votes needed to approve the bill, they can afford to lose 40 of their own caucus members and still win passage.

Don't count your votes before the are cast Slimes. What this means is some Democrats want the stupid thing voted on today, not delayed forever.

That does not guarantee they are voting FOR the bill.

I fear if it is liberty that we want we will have to be willing to pay the ultimate price!

What an historic disaster. Let’s hope to God there are a handful of Dems in the Senate that will not support political suicide of the Democratic Party, and even more so the loss of American freedom. Apparently, Nancy nor the ‘blue dog’s give a damn.

A lot of people are beginning to think this way now.

When someone first said this to me 6-8 months ago, I shuddered at the thought. Now, I am beginning to agree with them.

>> What this means is some Democrats want the stupid thing voted on today, not delayed forever.

Didn’t this vote happen way earlier today? Sometime this morning?

Pelosi may or may not have the votes she needs — but this earlier vote in no way reflects the margin, no matter what the Slimes says.

If you’re not on the dole now - you won’t benefit from this “reform” either. It’ll be one more thing we’ll be forced to pay for - this one with a jail sentence if we don’t.

What the so-called debate on C-Span.

This is not a debate. It’s just a bunch of muckety-mucks making statements. Let’s see a real debate where members challenge each other openly. This whole thing is a farce!

You raise a very good question. There is absolutely NOTHING in the conventional law (that is, outside of a constitutional amendment), that cannot be repealed by the very next congress.

If the Republicans swept the next election, they could totally gut Obamacare, even if they couldn’t muster 2/3rds of both houses to destroy it. But the question is, would they?

Republicans have accepted every unconstitutional abomination the Democrats have passed for 70 years, without question, as if it was written in stone. They didn’t have to, but they did.

And so far, not ONE Republican has stood up and said that if Obamacare, or Cap ‘n’ Trade, or anything else the Democrats want to pass, is passed, and the Republicans get political power back, they will REPEAL it.

Republicans need to have their feet held to the fire about this.

No, as the Democrats will control the House and Senate throughout 2010.

And even when the GOP did control the House and Senate from 1995 to 2007 they took no steps what so ever to repeal Medicare and instead only EXPANDED Medicare by more than a TRILLION Dollars.

You’re fooling yourselves, folks. The average American wants this bill to pass. That’s why they voted for Democrats in the first place.

You guys love voting and representative government, right? Well, enjoy the result: mob rule. Any attempt to set up a republic will ALWAYS end this way.

Now do you guys finally see the stupidity of allowing the average idiot a say in running the country?

Wilson’s income tax was supposed to be a “temporary” measure to help pay for WWI, and almost 100 years later we’re not only still paying it, but it’s a huge bureacracy in which the citizen is guilty until proven innocent.
