When 6-year-old Elena Desserich was diagnosed with brain cancer, she began hiding hundreds of little love notes around the house for her parents to find after she was gone. Heres the story:
Just before her sixth birthday, Elena Desserich (right) was diagnosed with brain cancer and given 135 days to live. She lived 255 days, passing away in 2007. After her death, Elenas parents, Brooke and Keith, found hundreds of notes from Elena hidden around the house in between CD cases, between bookshelves, in dresser drawers, in backpacks .
"It just felt like a little hug from her, like she was telling us she was looking over us"
Elena left hundreds of notes like these:

Hundreds of notes like these:

I saw this yesterday and thought about it all the rest of the day. I don’t have kids but I work with them, and am an uncle to my best friend’s little girls. Can’t imagine what her parents are going through with her loss, but what a kid!
At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven? / And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them, / And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.
The notes would make an aspiring book of positive thoughts.
Brought a tear to my eye.
That rarely happens....
God’s comfort to her family.
My daughter is 7...and now I cant see the screen very well...
Blurry Screen.

Can’t even imagine.
The notes left behind... it would be a joy and a heartbreak everytime one was found.
This child is a product of her parents. May that thought comfort them that they fufilled their duty to her and God in a way most parents never get to see.
God bless and keep you through your most difficult hour...
OMG! I agree. I wish I hadn’t looked at this. I know they probably cried every time they found a note and then smiled.
Note to self: Upon further reading, it looks like they did make a book.
with tears Bttt
It is comforting to know that she knew how much she was loved by her family.
As the father of a daughter, this tears my heart out.

I'm sure her hand was guided by the Lord, and now holds her close
Wow.
What a stark contrast between the comments on FR and the ones on the source site.
Beautiful girl, and beautiful story. How lucky heaven must be!
Semper fidelis means exactly what it says to some good folks.
Thanks.
Yeah, amazing is it not.
Conservatives seem to be the big hearted, in reality.
Ditto
What a sweet girl. An angel, she is...
My daughters are 24, 22 and 20 and I can’t see the screen very well either.
Bull cookies! Every story like this moistens a marines eyes, its what makes them MARINES (and every other branch)!

‘An angel on earth, now in heaven.’
Undoubtedly correct.
I have a six year-old son, so I’m just bawling my eyes out. I can’t even imagine how they must feel everytime they find one of those notes. Heart-breaking, but so sweet too.
My daughter is a Freshman in college but I still have some of her drawings hung up. The world is poorer for this little angel’s passing.
There was such a stark difference, I just thought it should be noted. The next time conservatives are accused of being cold and heartless, this small example should be cited. That being said, I am making no judgment on the parents’ motives.
I have some of these notes from my twins. There is nothing I treasure more.
Geez louize.
I’m reading this at work and now I have to hide the tears.
I’ll just tell everyone it’s my allergies acting up.
Bookmark for re-reading.
Agreed!
I agree with Post 24 on the source site. Sometimes swear words are the only words for that sort of blindness.
I lost it after reading it. My 6-year old daughter makes notes almost exactly like that for me. what an angel. God rest her little soul.
I needed a good cry apparently.
A girl concerned for he Mom and Dad. Elena lives!
The Lord imparts special gifts to those He chooses. This child clearly was not a selfish person. She thought not of her condition but of her parents and her love for them.
I can not imagine the grief every time a note is found, or the pain associated with it. I can also not imagine being that parent and knowing what a special child they were blessed to know.
I pray they were saved and that this little girl knew about her Messiah. If not, perhaps the Lord of Lords will tell her personally.
AMEN.
Blurry Screen Bump
One of the last things my son did before he died of brain cancer, was to put my hand over my husbands as to say "You still have each other". He could no longer speak.
Now I will finish my crying.
My brand new slim screen monitor is blurry.
Must be some manufacturing flaw.
You don’t qualify as human if this doesn’t at least choke you up a little bit.
I have a daughter exactly this age. I’m losing it.
Per the article, the parents have put her notes into a book to raise charitable funds for pediatric brain cancer research.
Now, I know I’ve got a box of Kleenex around here somewhere...
Sniff, sniff, excuse me.
