Newt Gingrich "Explains" Himself; Says Conservatives "Have Every Right to be Angry" - Video
Freedom's Lighthouse ^ | November 04, 2009 | Michael

Posted on 11/04/2009 9:45:13 PM PST by Federalist Patriot

Here is video of Newt Gingrich on Sean Hannity's show "explaining" why he endorsed Scozzafava and saying that he "deeply regrets" she was chosen by the 11 local county chairs.

When asked what he would say to Conservatives that are angry at him Newt answered "they have every right to be angry, I don't blame them," he went on to say "I think she was the wrong nominee and I think it was a terrible position." (Video)

I’ll give him credit for being big enough to admit the whole thing was a huge mistake. A lot of people in the political aren’t capable of doing such a mea culpa.

Enough said? Pfft, I’m not buying it. If Newt can so staunchly support a raging liberal like Scuzzy, then his judgement is untrustworthy. Hoffman would be the winner today if Newt and the gang hadn’t ignored him in favor of Scuzzy.

This is worse than bad judgement, it’s inexcusably bad judgement.

And I dread hearing Hannity tomorrow giving us a lecture about how Newt made a mistake, he admitted it, let’s move on. Gah!

He didn't actually admit to a mistake of himself. I heard him say that the Liberal woman was picked by a panel of 11 Republicans on the local level and he, being an outsider, felt that he should not go against their wishes. In other words, he would not stand on the right thing to do but stand on party lines. Big mistake Newt.

I used to have the highest respect for Newt. I've bought his books and even wanted him to run for President. NOW, I wouldn't buy him a cup of coffee. I didn't think he could get any lower than when he made that commercial about global warming with Witch Pelosi, but he really topped that this time.

I understand he is a fine historical writer, but he should apply his history lessons to today’s political climate when we need conservatism more than ever. If he wants to work behind the scenes for conservatives that is fine but his days as a leader are over.

I agree that no matter what he is not Presidential material. He's really going to have to prove himself, that he has changed. I do think, though, that we Conservatives need to distinguish between letting someone like Newt run for a high office and allowing them to be useful for the cause. We have to have a place for people to come back to if they have strayed, but we definitely need to keep our eyes on them.

Got in the car yesterday and turned on the radio. Sean announced that Newt was his next guest. Turned to a country music station.

I won’t listen to Sean anymore. Too many liberal call ins and too many RINOs like Newt.

It takes two points to define a line. Newt has cheated on two wives. Newt is defined by his actions.

Newt was banging his assistant (thus cheating on his second wife) while leading the Republican revolution of 1994. I am betting that this little tidbit was in his FBI file that the Clintons had. This would explain why Newt played softie with the Clintons during the budget shutdown in 1995.

He betrayed us then, he betrayed us now, and he wants to apologize and expects us to forgive him.

Go away Newt.

You don’t have to buy anything. I, like many of you here, are going to take Newt’s words with a larger grain of salt from now on. That’s okay. I am sure Newt’s understands that as well, and it okay with that. But his experience and insight into our present situation and how best to bring about a true grassroot conservative rebellion to save this country is just too valuable to throw away.

"A worthless HAS been"...

I know a lot of people in the Republican Party, most of them would sell their own grandmothers out if they thought it would earn them an extra vote...but none of them are worthless has beens.

The only real worthless has beens I see are all those Independents who have abandoned the party instead of helping us reform it, and who still are willing to sit on the sidelines and yell out the soles while the only party that is even remotely in an actual position to fight Obama whithers on the vine...these are the true "has beens".

I saw it... Newt is just trying to hop back on the conservative bandwagon that he willfully jumped off of and sought to throw under his "moderate/COMPROMISE BUS" that has left him Nd his ilk in the dust.

I no longer respect him because he showed his true colors in NY 23. Newt... stick to writing books and stay out of the lime lite. The man who formed the Contract with America no longer exists, he has been replaced with a "Republican Party uber alles... we must compromise all of our conservative prinicples in order to get anyone with a R in front of their name elected... no matter what."

Yes, I know we are not talking about moral sin — it’s much worse — it’s politics. I dare say Newt, you, me and everyone else has made mistakes from time to time when it comes to trying to assess the political value of a candidate. It ain’t easy.

Anyone with any political experience knows developing good candidates is perhaps the hardest aspect of this whole business. In short, it isn’t easy. Try it sometimes, as I have.
