Prayers for Increased Education and Healthcare, but No Prayers for the End of Abortion (Vanity)

Posted on 11/02/2009 7:35:58 AM PST by Debacled

This past Sunday, I deviated from my usual schedule of going to Noon Mass on Sunday at my parish and decided instead to go to 9 PM Sunday Mass at a local University's chapel.

I am familiar with the college chapel's Mass- I've been to it a few times. Sometimes the Mass is recited outside the rubrics of the Novus Ordo liturgy, but the campus ministry program is run by genuinely good people. However, my perception of this college's campus ministry changed last night.

During the prayer intentions after the Nicene Creed, the lector asked that we pray for all politicians (which is fine). After that prayer intention, the lector asked that we pray for better schools and increased access to healthcare (okay...). But yet after that intention, no mention about the end of abortion, about the sanctity of human life, about the ethical/moral obligations of politicians with respect to life issues, etc.

Why does this chapel embrace the so-called peace and justice movement, yet deny the dignity and rights of the individual person (the unborn & the elderly)?

Never liked going to this chapel anyway, but since my weekend was busy and there was no Sunday night football game, I figured "why not?".

They need to say a sinners prayer, asking Jesus into their lives, then only will they see the light! It`s amazing how many people that think they are Christian, that have never actually asked Jesus into their life and thanked him for dying on the cross for their sins.

Its just ritual until you have invited Jesus in to your heart. I am preaching to the choir I am sure, just my 2 cents.

I was in a funeral car with a couple Priests years ago, I said the Church needed revival, the one Priest said, we don't need revival, we need someone that can manage the money. No kidding

The subject of being “born again” came up, the other Priest said, I guess I am born again in a sense, but not like the tv evangelists say it is.

Wide spread, many Church leaders do not have a personal relationship with Christ. If they do not, how could they possibly share it with others.
