Jake Tapper: an ABC News Real Reporter
The American Thinker Blog ^ | October 31, 2009 | Lee Cary

ABC News fields at least one real reporter. He’s White House correspondent Jake Tapper.

Most AT readers, like many Americans, are thoroughly convinced that the legacy media reports with a bias toward Obama and the policies of his administration. So, when a notable exception surfaces, it’s only right that he or she be acknowledged.

Jake Tapper has a front row seat at the White House (WH) briefings. He shows all the signs of being a for-real reporter. Here’s visual evidence of that.

Remember the cell phone irruption episode back on May 19th during one of Robert Gibbs’ press conferences before the WH press corps? The key moments are captured in this video. Watch it, please, and ignore Gibbs playing the role of the good-natured big dog. Instead, watch the reporter trying to ask a serious question and his non-verbal response as the circus unfolds. You may have to play it twice since he isn’t the focus of the camera. Read his body language. He looks like an adult among children. He smiles some, but doesn’t join in with the horselaughs from the press. That’s Jake Tapper. He looks out of place. He is out of place.

Tapper will be out of a job at ABC if he keeps this up. Then he will join the Fox News team and we can all watch him.

Tapper sounds like an honest reporter, who is a skeptic of anyone in the Government. He was skeptical of GWB and Conservatives as well, in the past.

I don't mind if the MSM go after my guys, as long as they go after the other guys with just as much passion.

Having seen Ann Compton at a forum recently, I think she might be added to this short list.

The guy is a liberal with a “Mother Jones” background. He just doesn’t have much patience with phony government.

Maybe I’m just cynical, but whenever you see an MSM reporter showing some spine, I definitely get the feeling they’re implicitly auditioning for a gig at Fox News. Hopefully a lot of reporters will clue into this. They will recognize that their own outlets are shrinking while Fox is growing. So, the solution is to become a “real” reporter again. Either your outlet gains market share due to your efforts, or you get fired and (hopefully) land a spot with Fox. Sad, but probably true.

What I find truly sad here is the fact that a reporter actually attempts to do what he’s paid to do.....and that alone puts him in the spotlight.

Pretty damning for the profession of “journalism” these days.

I think if Hoffman wins NY23, McDonnell wins in Virginia and Christie wins in NJ, we're going see a bunch of "Journalists" suddenly grow a spine. Like rats off a sinking ship.....

I used to think Jake Tapper was a reflexive liberal but then I saw him cover the 2008 Presidential campaign. He was one of the few asking tough questions of Obama and Hillary. And then when ABC “tapped” him to cover the White House I was very happy because I knew he wouldn’t bend over like his colleagues.

I like Jake Tapper and Matt Lauer because they as tough on the Democrats as they are on the Republicans. It’s like they reside in “no man’s land”. There aren’t that many reporters like that (besides the ones working on Fox, but thats a given).
