Fred Thompson Rebuffs Newt, Joins The "Misguided"
Stephen Kruiser ^ | 10/28/09 | Stephen Kruiser

Don't worry Newt, you can probably have coffee with John Kerry or somebody when this is over.

While Gingrich and a few other people on the Right keep trying to make the "A left-wing Republican is better than no Republican at all argument", Fred Thompson lent even more conservative street cred to Doug Hoffman's campaign by making an ad.

Thompson gently knocked back Newt's condescension towards the party's real conservatives and further undermined Gingrich's claim that we're the ones who are out of touch.

I wish Fred was 15 years younger and had a better campaign manager.

I wonder what Newt will say after Hoffman wins the special election. Is he going to actually say that it’s a BAD thing that the most (and only) conservative candidate won? I’m afraid so. It looks like he will throw a little tantrum and say it’s a bad thing because it sets a precedent that if conservatives don’t like the GOP candidate, they can just run a 3rd party candidate which would be political suicide. At least that’s the way he sees it. Hey, Newt, how about this for a precedent - NOMINATE CONSERVATIVES. Problem solved.

At least Newt has answered the question he may have entertained over the last couple of years. Is there any chance I could still turn this thing around, is there any chance I could be president?

He has closed the door on that idea for good.

He can relax now, its off the table. Good job.

“Leftwing republican” is an oxymoron! Someone is either leftwing or they are republican, can’t be both!

I hope that Hoffman's getting in is a huge wake up call for the Republicans.

Newt has been in politics too long. He can't see the tree for the forest.

This is a great thing for Conservatism, but if this 3rd party action screws us over like Perot did by giving us Bill Clinton, will people admit Newt was right? THIRD PARTY'S WILL KILL US!! Luckily in this case the Republican is more Liberal than the Democrat and the siphoning is nearly equal, but next time it most likely will hurt us. And Newt is sticking to his guns though EVERYONE is slamming him right now, which he deserves credit for.

The Elite GOP screwed up big time....hopefully they learned something so we wont have to do this again.

Newt has no morality and no backbone. He would sell his mother if it meant he would not be on the losing side. He will cut off his nose to spite his face. This is exactly the kind of wishy-washy Republicans we need to get rid of. He is a sell-out to liberalism...he lets polls and popularity establish his character and principles...in truth there is no character there.

First of all, squishy GHW Bush gave us the ‘toon. Second, Perot and his voters also contributed to the GOP taking back congress in ‘94 for the first time in decades.

Without Perot, it’s likely we would have had squishy Bush with a donk-controlled congress, followed by the ‘toon in ‘96...with a donk-controlled congress.

Yep, I voted for him the primary. The first time I’ve even supported a republican. Never voted dem, but living in the bay area (CA) you tend to feel that your vote doesn’t count.

A believer of federalism and man with genuine conservative values. It sucks that we don’t have thousands like him.

This is not true at all as Ron Paul has publicly rejected the 911 Truth movement much to the chagrin of the movement. Furthermore: there are actually a number of legitimate questions concerning that date as the 911 truth movement is often painted as all conspiracy theorists but in fact most of them just want honest questions answered. The folks who ran the 911 Commission even admitted that the report was a whitewash as they were stymied from resolving & finding answers to questions.

I like his wife even more. She is incredibly articulate, charismatic and competent. Fred is a good guy though.
