Gallup Poll Proves Sarah Palin Right and Newt Gingrich Wrong
Gallup/The Lid ^ | 10/26/09 | The Lid

There is a wild three-way race going going on in the 23rd Congressional district in NY State, pitting liberal Republican Dede Scozzafava and Democrat Bill Owens both of whom have been endorsed by ACORN against Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman.

This race is quickly becoming a microcosm of the battle of the soul for the Republican Party; Former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, former Senator Rick Santorum, former House Majority Leader Dick Armey, current Minnesota Rep. Michelle Bachmann, former Tennessee Senator and presidential candidate Fred Thompson, and former presidential candidate Steve Forbes have all backed Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman over Republican Dede Scozzafava. On the other hand, the National Republican Campaign Committee (NRCC) and former Speaker Newt Gingrich are backing Scozzafava who's stances are much to liberal for traditional GOP platforms and who's management of her campaign is quickly becoming a joke to observers of campaign politics.

Yesterday Politico, reported yesterday that the NRCC will throw good money after bad, spending $200,000 to $300,000 on "TV ads propping up Scozzafava in the days leading up to the Nov. 3 contest and plans to keep up a near relentless barrage of press releases slamming Hoffman."

The NRCC is fighting a losing battle, Jim Geraghty is reporting on his blog that polling shows the conservative Hoffman is now beating Democrat Bill Owens 31 percent to 27 liberal Republican Scozzafava gets less than 20 percent of the vote.

What is it that Gingrich and the NRCC doesn't get? The latest Gallup poll has the answer, party affiliation does not matter as much as the fact that the United States remains a conservative leaning country:

They've given up winning (if that was ever even an option for Dede), and are now focusing on trying to make sure Hoffman doesn't win. They can't afford for a "rogue" candidate to upset their piece of the two-party pie.

Another reason NOT go give a farthing to the RNCC..rather.send your $$$$ directly to the candidates that you personally support..

Unfortunately, Hoffman may win, but the Republicans may not learn the lesson.

Clearly the Republican party has abandoned any remaining fig leaf of conservatism.

What kills me is how many (even some here) will pull the handle for the Pubs every time, lest “confusion” reign.

Holy smokes! If Hoffman wins this race, it should have HUGE implications for the NRCC—not least of which, their senior staff should all be fired.

Newt and the Potomac swimmers in the Republican Party still have time to get out of the muck, dry off, put on some honesty and dignity, and join us conservatives in the struggle to take back America while there is something left to take back. Hurry up Newt. The nation is wasting.

“NRCC—not least of which, their senior staff should all be fired.”

Not only should those heads roll, but John Bohnior, Mitch McConnell, Cantor and any other GOP who was involved in selecting DeDe...their heads should roll as well.

That is exactly right. IMO the minute Sarah Palin endorsed Hoffman, this race became a referendum on her. I believe there will be fraud on both R & D sides of the ticket in order to defeat Hoffman and let "the elites" use it as a club against Palin.

They will have less than a year to learn that lesson. The 2010 elections are going to be a watershed moment for this country.

I did, too. The Dems are pouring a fortune in to the local media, I've read.

Newt, real leaders stand for principles, they don’t give measure away in frightened compromise. I’m done with you Newt. If you represent the future RNC, then me and my family are long gone. We will continue to stand for righteousness; with Adonai we will overcome.

It’s too late for Newt. He defected long since, before he even left office. Some Freepers have supported him as a “conservative,” at least before this fiasco erupted. But they just haven’t been paying attention. They remember what he said in 1994, and they forget what he has been doing most of the time since then.

Newt has repeatedly demonstrated that he has NO principles and cannot be relied on. Clinton bought him, and he is still for sale to the highest bidders.
