Here is video of Robert Gibbs on "Morning Joe" talking about Afghanistan.
Gibbs was asked when he thinks Obama will make a decision on Afghanistan. He answered "I think in the coming weeks, I think in the next several weeks the President will make a decision and announce that decision and talk to the American people."
Gibbs was also asked "does the President still consider Afghanistan a war of necessity?" He answered "absolutely." (Video)

If he hedges until Thanksgiving, he can easily fudge it to the New Year’s since most Americans don’t give a darn about Afghania anyway.
But, by that time, Pakistan may well heat up.
Obama is holding off untill after the November elections - afraid of pissing off the far left if he sends more troops.
Meanwhile, in Afghanistan, American soldiers and Marines are in more danger because of Obama’s political calculations. They need the troops Mccrystal asked for to help watch their backs...and take the offensive to the Taliban.
Hey cut the guy some slack. You know how hard it is to destroy the nation’s health care system with one hand and fight a news network with the other hand. No wonder he has no time to think about sending more troops to Afghanistan.

Bush conducts review in Summer 08, holds off publicising at Obama’s request over the transition period, Obama APPROVES 21K troops in January, IMO validating the strategy put forward by the Summer Review.
Then Obama starts this song and dance with McChrystal, and FWIW I believe this request has been sitting in the WH since Memorial Day, if not earlier.
The Obamawallahs Summer 09 review was just a delaying tactic, postpone a decision and harden the perception among Americans that this is a futile cause, while at the same time massaging and improving the image of the Talibs!
