The path towards irrelevancy and future insolvency taken by The New York Times continues at a frenetic pace. Democracy Now! is reporting that the publication has announced the elimination of another 100 newsroom positions, or about eight percent of the papers news staff, due to declining advertising revenues and circulation numbers that are in freefall.
May it slam into the dustbin of history with a mighty *WUMP*
At what point was the New York Times NOT liberal?
So what’s changed? Why is it dying now?
Because the internet actually does a better job of covering the news...
If their liberalism was ever high-minded it has been replaced by a bunch of petty vindictive hatemongers who treat matters of great import with the same cheap point system that they do Manhattan apartment hunting.
It deserves to die.
Good riddance to an out of touch, arrogant, elitist piece of garbage. “Save the trees!”
Good.
Yep, I read this story yesterday or the day before on FR.
If there is anyone responsible for killing the newspapers, it’s Craig Newmark, founder of Craigslist.com.
By himself he virtually eliminated the classified money stream.
Some Good Wednesday night news LOL!
So how is “liberal bias” killing the NYT???
Who in NYC is not liberal?
Isn’t it more likely that they’re NOT LIBERAL ENOUGH for New York?
“Because the internet actually does a better job of covering the news...”
Not only far more timely and with better graphics, but of course it allows people to learn all the news that the Times doesn’t see fit to print.
The NYT forgot that printing news is important. Keeping socialism at bay is important. Keeping dictatorship at bay is important. Keeping the Constitution IS important. F the NY times, they simply have no school to draw from.
They single handedly let the Dictator in Chief in the office of Presidency by hiding and covering up their PROOF of his involvement WITH and FOR ACORN.
Before you count them out for good, remember that they have other assets that are rarely talked about: radio and television stations, the Boston Globe, some choice real estate in NYC and elsewhere, a piece of the Boston Red Sox, etc. Seems like their current hereditary management is so obsessed with their political ideology that they are incapable of making business decisions that will improve the company's future prospects.
Believe it or not, there are some FReepers in NYC, as well as some conservative enterprises and non-profit conservative public interest groups - for starters. You also have the editorial staff of the Wall Street Journal and possibly Ann Coulter and other conservative intellectuals and media personalities. Just to name a few islands of sanity.
Hooray for that! Bye Slimes!
Only 92% to go.
By reading FreeRepublic and other websites, I am consistently 3 months ahead of family and friends about major social issues, be they scandals, the economy, politics, laws, the environment, money, or corruption. By the time they even hear about a given topic, I am able to come in and clue them in to all of the sordid details I have already studied.
People who only watch ABC, NBC, and CBS are supremely ignorant.
I’m not sure I would classify the Boston Globe as an asset. I thought it was a money sinkhole these days like the Times itself.
