As I read online, I notice that there are plenty of people who believe that Egypt is some kind of "moderate" Islamic country where non-Muslims are treated fairly. The reality is that Muslims of Egypt, preach hatred towards Jews, and have been persecuting the Coptic Christians there for centuries. Yet the US government has poured billions of dollars into Egypt. Unfortunately we ask for little in return.

Ahh, good morning. I see you beat me to this one.

Praying that faith will conquer all opposition.

Hi Liberty,

A huge Christian movement is the only thing that can stop the world from falling to Islam.

But this is a case of a Coptic woman, who eloped with a Muslim man. They present the article in a way that makes it sound as if it is the other way around.

How Hanna’s daughter, Myrna Gamal Hanna, came to marry Mohamad Osama Hefnawy is disputed, but sources said the now-20-year-old woman was 19 and under the age of marital consent when she and Hefnawy were wed 10 months ago.

According to Egyptian civil law, a woman under the age of 21 has to have approval of her father or another male member of her family if the father is deceased. In Myrna Gamal Hanna’s case, no such approval was given.

Notice how they say "disputed"? Isn't she the one who was 'rescued' her several times before, when she ran away from home as a teenager, and she kept running back to her Muslim paramour? If so, she sounds like a nice piece. I do not see a single allegation that Myrna was kidnapped through violence - rather she married without her father's permission, which is a different thing.

Anyway, the Egyptian govt has taken Myrna out of that household, and she is now in a women's centre for special 'abduction' cases. She is six months pregnant. Maybe, considering her age, etc., she should be given a free choice as to whether she wishes to continue with her marriage.

In the past, the Egyptian govt has taken the side of Coptic families who demanded the return of their womenfolk. Mubarak himself ordered that the wife of a Coptic Priest who eloped with a Muslim man should be ordered to go back to her husband, although she was showing fear of her family, and claimed to have converted to Islam. But the President ruled that she and her boyfriend were both at fault.

My non-Muslim friend from Egypt told me that Mubarak was scared to death of Bush. The fear is now gone with Obama in charge and things are getting worse.
