As usual:
**
Former President George W. Bush addressed a capacity crowd Wednesday night at the Wilderness Resort and Convention Center in Sevierville.
Bush wowed a crowd of more than 9,000 that attended a three-day conference of the Phil Waldrep Ministries based in Decatur, Ala.
Bush gave the enthusiastic crowd a patriotic message of joy, hope and faith in our families
The former president shied away from any political stance and said each U.S. leader must surround themselves with people they can trust.
Always surround yourself with people that youre not afraid to listen to, he said.
Base your decisions on your values that are steadfast and dont change with the times. Its essential that when you look in the mirror you can be proud of what you see. Never compromise your values for popularity. Take a stand and defend it.
Bush said he was proud to represent the United States during his eight-year tenure.
The institution of president is so much more important than the person, he said. I tried to bring honor to the office for eight years.

Obama and Co cant go a day, it seems, without using President Bush as a whipping boy - President Bush simply cannot bring himself to offer criticism, even of those who hate him. A Christian and a gentleman, its just not in him to match his critics invective.
I said back in 2008 that were going to miss him - I certainly do: Id give my right arm to have him back in the White House for just a week, in order to make the decisions necessary to carry Afghanistan through.
ABSOLUTELY! A class act. Kind and humble. The way politicians are supposed to be.
We now have a POtuS about whom we do not know:
1. Grade School records
2. High School records
3. Occidental College records
4. Columbia University records
5. Columbia thesis
6. Harvard Law School records
7. Harvard Law Review articles
8. Articles from the University of Chicago
9. Passport History
10. Medical records
11. Files from his years as an Illinois state senator
12. Illinois State Bar Association records
13. Baptism records
14. Adoption records.
15. Place of birth.
I saw W’s dental charts from the ANG in Alabama.
WTF America?
Now, compare GW to Carter & Clinton who BOTH traveled overseas to besmirch GW as soon as possible.
I would be personally pleased if Bush carried the nickname “Midland mad-dog” rather than “wus”. He is as forgettable a President as Chester A. Arthur.
The institution of president is so much more important than the person, he said. I tried to bring honor to the office for eight years.
Absolutely, and that is why Pes George W Bush will be remembered and zero forgotten
If O and his obots didn’t know that President Bush was so much better than they could ever hope to be, they wouldn’t spend so much time trying to pull down President Bush.
Put a rubber band around your head and snap out of it!
ping!
Even my aunt - a lifelong Dem who had to hitch a ride to the White House because she didn't want to driver her Kerry-Sticker-Covered car there, was wowed by Mr. and Mrs. Bush's personality and class.
I tried to bring honor to the office for eight years.
You did Mr. President, you did, Thank you!
Miss me yet
Just had a turrets type of outburst, still laughing maybe one of the best Caption This as good humor of late. Too, bad the like minded party of Jimmy, Bill and Bobo have so many Mental Disorders are just waayyy to important to keep the dignity of POTUS and trust of the American people.
I remember reading some years ago about a Chester Arthur Society in Australia. Members were interested in that period of American history (not necessarily obsessed with President Arthur in particular). I don’t know if it’s still in existence.
Interesting, strange but interesting.
George Bush was the Polk of the 21st Century. Polk fought a successful war with Mexico, but in all other political aspects was a robust failure. If there had been no 9/11 we would be comparing Bush with Jimmie Carter and calling it a toss-up.
Whatever makes your life worth living. Bye-bye!
God bless him truly .. there’s NO doubt of
the honor and dignity he and Lauara restored
to the Office, as contrasted more every day
with what we’re witnessing these days. We
knew once after Ronald Reagan and GHW Bush,
we were blessed with a man who loved his
country, unlike the current resident, and we
pray to be so blessed again ... soon.
New York Post, Jan. 11, 2009:
“Since 2001, the government has thwarted a number of plots, including conspiracies to blow up airplanes and fuel farms, assault an army base, and attack Los Angeles and Chicago skyscrapers - and surely others.
Internationally, in 2006, the Bush administration helped foil a plot hatched in Pakistan that aimed to bring down about 10 US- and Canada-bound airliners over the Atlantic with liquid explosives after taking-off from the United Kingdom.
If it had succeeded, the attack could have killed more people than the number who tragically died on 9/11.
The Feds have nailed more than two dozen terrorist wannabes right here in the United States since 2001. Treasury froze terror-related finances, making it tougher for terrorists to plan, train and operate.
President Bush also took the fight to the enemy overseas in places like Afghanistan, where Osama bin Laden and al Qaeda had set up shop in the years prior to 9/11, plotting the destruction of the United States and the establishment of a global Islamist caliphate.
Aiding this success has been a reinvigorated national security establishment, including the creation of the Department of Homeland Security, the Director of National Intelligence and joint intelligence and law enforcement centers.
In Asia, the Bush administration helped the Philippines fight the Abu Sayyaf Group and Indonesia battle Jemaah Islamiya. Both groups have al Qaeda ties - and US and Western targets in their crosshairs.
Ties with Indonesia, the world’s most populous Muslim nation, have been normalized after years of troubled relations. Japan is now making increasing contributions to international security across the globe.
Fortunately, the Bushies caught North Korea cheating on its 1994 nuclear agreement with the United States. While progress has been glacial, Washington did get Pyongyang to agree to end all its nuke programs.”
An that’s just the tip of the ice berg. Yeah, sure, Pres. Bush was a “do nothing” president.
Hey, RD!
Glad to run into you! How are things as winter approaches?
Send me a note when you have time.
(And I liked your reply to Melchior. HA!)
ditto!
Bump.
I have missed seeing your posts.
Most historians consider Polk one of the top 10 Presidents.
THANK YOU for this post and your incisive analysis . . . And for those on this thread who’ve forgotten, gatewaypundit details once again why we should all miss President George W Bush:
HE LIBERATED MILLIONS... HE KEPT US SAFE
http://gatewaypundit.blogspot.com/2009/01/bush-farewell-address-he-kept-us-safe.html
I removed myself from most political discussions because I was getting too angry. I can also be found on the Catholic threads in the religion section and on America the Right Way in the chat area.
Good to see you!
It didn’t help Bush that he had a RINO majority in the GOP congress.
Ergo, your opinion about President Bush is worth as much as a liberal's is.
Nothing.
There's not a single Bush hater on the left or right than can light a candle to the class and character of George W. Bush.
They can bite at his ankles for the rest of their days, but it will never mean a thing because they have missed the essence of who this man is.
This is possibly the most illogical and stupid post I've seen on FR - and you're competing with some really idiotic comments.
If there had been no 9/11?? How can an intelligent person even argue with that kind of inanity (rhetorical - you can't)
And Jimmy Carter? Holy Moly. Bush's foreign policy was stellar. Carter was one of the most dangerous and incompetant President's we've ever had. Bush's character and honor and love of country is unsurpassed. Carter is a piece of slime, devious and hates America.
Yikes. Dumb.
OTOH, you live each day in fear that theres someone in the world living a respectful, healthy and productive life.
May God Bless him! A man among men...
BHO--and his people--have no clue what real class is.
Couldn’t agree with you more. I truly miss this President!
Not only does bHo have no class...I bet if you played the song, “Have you forgotten” he’d have NOOOOO reaction. No goose bumps. No tears welling up in his eyes...NOTHING.
Scary, isn't it? How he got where he is, I have no idea. People seem to be enamored with a totally empty suit.
Oh...yeah.... THIS “Emperor” DEFINITELY ain’t got no clothes!
He's never been a Boy Scout or played in Little League. He's never mowed his own lawn, grown a garden, or worked on a car he bought with money he earned sacking groceries or flipping hamburgers.
He doesn't understand 4-H or country fairs; he hasn't spent an evening at the American Legion Hall or gone bowling with his buddies. He's never owned a gun, a pick-up, or a dog (Charlie, now called Bo, I refuse to count as I think he is a prisoner.)
He doesn't understand Knights of Columbus. the SOns of Norway, or B'nai Brith. He has no understanding of science, technology, inventiveness, small business or pitching in to help a neighbor in trouble.
He is totally alien to all that makes up the fabric of American Society, because he is not really (even if he was born in Hawaii) an American.
He views himself as a Citizen of the World, who just "happens" to be president. He will manipulate those people who are susceptible to his talents, which basically are a sophisticated way of being all things to all people.
Black supporters see him as the triumph of the black man over the white. Pacifists see him as anti-war. Poor people see him as a potential Santa. Gays see him as one who will grant their "rights". And so it goes.
He doesn't care about any of these groups, as he doesn't care about the country as a whole. His holding office is simply a vehicle for his accumulation of power, which he will use to destroy as much as possible. He brings with him all of the Four Horsemen...Famine, War, Conquest, and Death. If you think I am engaging at hyperbole, look at what's happening abroad. He will not be satisfied until he stands upon the rubble of this nation while we forage in the fields, barefoot and in rags.
That is very sobering and so true. Why are so many blinded to the truth (which you so eloquently detail)?
There is nothing wrong with leading a healthy, respectful and productive life. I do. However, I understand my limitations. George Bush never did, or he would never have listened to Karl Rove who pushed him to run for President.
It also shouldn't be discounted that many people simply aren't informed. They are too worried about money and supporting their families, or too busy following sports or entertainment. And the media is complicit in this, refusing to cover unflattering stories, twisting any objection to Obama policies as racism, obstructionism, etc.
The odds seem stacked against us, but we must fight on, continue to speak out, continue to support those who do. Congress is weak and timid, and they are going to have to be prodded to oppose him. I am sure the temptation to be silent and not oppose him is immense. We have to encourage those guys and pray for them.
And we should pray for each other, and for the nation.
Name one.
Perhaps that doesn't seem a bad thing to you, but I shudder when I think where we would be if Gore had been president on 9/11.
This composite poll of historians has Polk at 12

Okay, not top 10, hardly indicative of what would be historically considered a bad President.
With all due respect, how would you know who pushed whom into what except in your own personal orbit. Ditto for the mad-dog vs wus comment or the personal limitations of a man you do not know. IMHO, President Bush stands tall amidst his critics if for no reason other than keeping the country safe after 9-11. Since neither of us happens to be a professional historian our opinions on past and current presidents are merely personal observations.
Sorry Darlin’, I am a professional historian, and I do have, and have had for years, constant contact with the political, economic and diplomatic elements that board the Washington merry-go-round. That being written, I am of the opinion that Bush, father and son, have been a disaster for the Republican Party. You may disagree. That’s fine. I believe that political debate is imbibed with mother’s milk.
