President Bush Vastly Outclasses His Critics
blogsforvictory ^ | Mark Noonan

Posted on 10/12/2009 11:16:56 AM PDT by big black dog

As usual:

**

Former President George W. Bush addressed a capacity crowd Wednesday night at the Wilderness Resort and Convention Center in Sevierville.

Bush wowed a crowd of more than 9,000 that attended a three-day conference of the Phil Waldrep Ministries based in Decatur, Ala.

Bush gave the enthusiastic crowd a patriotic message of joy, hope and faith in our families…

…The former president shied away from any political stance and said each U.S. leader must surround themselves with people they can trust.

“Always surround yourself with people that you’re not afraid to listen to,” he said.

“Base your decisions on your values that are steadfast and don’t change with the times. It’s essential that when you look in the mirror you can be proud of what you see. Never compromise your values for popularity. Take a stand and defend it.”

Bush said he was proud to represent the United States during his eight-year tenure.

“The institution of president is so much more important than the person,” he said. “I tried to bring honor to the office for eight years.”

**

Obama and Co can’t go a day, it seems, without using President Bush as a whipping boy - President Bush simply cannot bring himself to offer criticism, even of those who hate him. A Christian and a gentleman, its just not in him to match his critics’ invective.

I said back in 2008 that we’re going to miss him - I certainly do: I’d give my right arm to have him back in the White House for just a week, in order to make the decisions necessary to carry Afghanistan through.

Now, compare GW to Carter & Clinton who BOTH traveled overseas to besmirch GW as soon as possible.

I would be personally pleased if Bush carried the nickname “Midland mad-dog” rather than “wus”. He is as forgettable a President as Chester A. Arthur.

Even my aunt - a lifelong Dem who had to hitch a ride to the White House because she didn't want to driver her Kerry-Sticker-Covered car there, was wowed by Mr. and Mrs. Bush's personality and class.

If true, why does the left keeping talking about him? The left hates him with a white hot insanity....many on the right were angry and frustrated with him. Energy like that doesn't translate to "forgettable." Frankly, forgettable sounds like a GOOD thing. Get a president and congress to do NOTHING while they're in office and it is probably a blessing for freedom-lovers and we'd forget they were there. The problem with politicians is they always think they have to be DOING something!

I remember reading some years ago about a Chester Arthur Society in Australia. Members were interested in that period of American history (not necessarily obsessed with President Arthur in particular). I don’t know if it’s still in existence.

George Bush was the Polk of the 21st Century. Polk fought a successful war with Mexico, but in all other political aspects was a robust failure. If there had been no 9/11 we would be comparing Bush with Jimmie Carter and calling it a toss-up.

New York Post, Jan. 11, 2009:

“Since 2001, the government has thwarted a number of plots, including conspiracies to blow up airplanes and fuel farms, assault an army base, and attack Los Angeles and Chicago skyscrapers - and surely others.

Internationally, in 2006, the Bush administration helped foil a plot hatched in Pakistan that aimed to bring down about 10 US- and Canada-bound airliners over the Atlantic with liquid explosives after taking-off from the United Kingdom.

If it had succeeded, the attack could have killed more people than the number who tragically died on 9/11.

The Feds have nailed more than two dozen terrorist wannabes right here in the United States since 2001. Treasury froze terror-related finances, making it tougher for terrorists to plan, train and operate.

President Bush also took the fight to the enemy overseas in places like Afghanistan, where Osama bin Laden and al Qaeda had set up shop in the years prior to 9/11, plotting the destruction of the United States and the establishment of a global Islamist caliphate.

Aiding this success has been a reinvigorated national security establishment, including the creation of the Department of Homeland Security, the Director of National Intelligence and joint intelligence and law enforcement centers.

In Asia, the Bush administration helped the Philippines fight the Abu Sayyaf Group and Indonesia battle Jemaah Islamiya. Both groups have al Qaeda ties - and US and Western targets in their crosshairs.

Ties with Indonesia, the world’s most populous Muslim nation, have been normalized after years of troubled relations. Japan is now making increasing contributions to international security across the globe.

Fortunately, the Bushies caught North Korea cheating on its 1994 nuclear agreement with the United States. While progress has been glacial, Washington did get Pyongyang to agree to end all its nuke programs.”

An that’s just the tip of the ice berg. Yeah, sure, Pres. Bush was a “do nothing” president.

This is possibly the most illogical and stupid post I've seen on FR - and you're competing with some really idiotic comments.

If there had been no 9/11?? How can an intelligent person even argue with that kind of inanity (rhetorical - you can't)

And Jimmy Carter? Holy Moly. Bush's foreign policy was stellar. Carter was one of the most dangerous and incompetant President's we've ever had. Bush's character and honor and love of country is unsurpassed. Carter is a piece of slime, devious and hates America.

Yikes. Dumb.

Thanks for posting this, big black dog! I remember reading some other good columns by Mark Noonan. You posted this but I have to again---it is so GWB.

“Base your decisions on your values that are steadfast and don’t change with the times. It’s essential that when you look in the mirror you can be proud of what you see. Never compromise your values for popularity. Take a stand and defend it.” Bush said he was proud to represent the United States during his eight-year tenure. “The institution of president is so much more important than the person,” he said. “I tried to bring honor to the office for eight years.”

BHO--and his people--have no clue what real class is.

Of course his eyes wouldn't tear up at that song. He is totally disconnected from the people of this country.

He's never been a Boy Scout or played in Little League. He's never mowed his own lawn, grown a garden, or worked on a car he bought with money he earned sacking groceries or flipping hamburgers.

He doesn't understand 4-H or country fairs; he hasn't spent an evening at the American Legion Hall or gone bowling with his buddies. He's never owned a gun, a pick-up, or a dog (Charlie, now called Bo, I refuse to count as I think he is a prisoner.)

He doesn't understand Knights of Columbus. the SOns of Norway, or B'nai Brith. He has no understanding of science, technology, inventiveness, small business or pitching in to help a neighbor in trouble.

He is totally alien to all that makes up the fabric of American Society, because he is not really (even if he was born in Hawaii) an American.

He views himself as a Citizen of the World, who just "happens" to be president. He will manipulate those people who are susceptible to his talents, which basically are a sophisticated way of being all things to all people.

Black supporters see him as the triumph of the black man over the white. Pacifists see him as anti-war. Poor people see him as a potential Santa. Gays see him as one who will grant their "rights". And so it goes.

He doesn't care about any of these groups, as he doesn't care about the country as a whole. His holding office is simply a vehicle for his accumulation of power, which he will use to destroy as much as possible. He brings with him all of the Four Horsemen...Famine, War, Conquest, and Death. If you think I am engaging at hyperbole, look at what's happening abroad. He will not be satisfied until he stands upon the rubble of this nation while we forage in the fields, barefoot and in rags.

They blind themselves, in most cases. Pride (not wanting to admit one was wrong) is part of it. Wishful thinking makes up another large portion of his supporters. Some of it is that he is the "other," NOT white, NOT old, NOT Republican.

It also shouldn't be discounted that many people simply aren't informed. They are too worried about money and supporting their families, or too busy following sports or entertainment. And the media is complicit in this, refusing to cover unflattering stories, twisting any objection to Obama policies as racism, obstructionism, etc.

The odds seem stacked against us, but we must fight on, continue to speak out, continue to support those who do. Congress is weak and timid, and they are going to have to be prodded to oppose him. I am sure the temptation to be silent and not oppose him is immense. We have to encourage those guys and pray for them.

And we should pray for each other, and for the nation.

With all due respect, how would you know who pushed whom into what except in your own personal orbit. Ditto for the mad-dog vs wus comment or the personal limitations of a man you do not know. IMHO, President Bush stands tall amidst his critics if for no reason other than keeping the country safe after 9-11. Since neither of us happens to be a professional historian our opinions on past and current presidents are merely personal observations.

That being written, I am of the opinion that Bush, father and son, have been a disaster for the Republican Party. You may disagree. That’s fine. I believe that political debate is imbibed with mother’s milk.
