See the video below of the Saturday Night Live (SNL) skit mocking President Obama, fresh off the surprising announcement that he'd received the Nobel Peace Prize. The announcement was met by "shock and awe" by both the Right and Left of the political persuasion.

SNL is just JEALOUS that they didn’t think of it LAST WEEK!

Skit was lame, rest of show was worse. Barrymore was still cute.

Just about everybody watches the show open, then clicks the channel...

to be honest... I haven’t watched the show after Belushi assumed room temperature, and after Akroyd, Chase, Etc left.

the most I ever see is the occasional skit on Youtube.. and only when mentioned by a FReeper.

I was too young to watch back then. But I have not watched since Farley, David Spade, Adam Sandler and the bunch left the show.

I saw it and it was totally lame. They put no thought or bite into it whatsoever. I could have come up with the same sketch in 30 seconds. And that actor doesn’t even attempt an obama impression. And the audience went wild over the assertion that he won because he’s not George Bush — as if that were actually a good reason.

Screw SNL, and screw the audience. And if I left anybody out, screw them, too.

“Skit was lame”

Sadly so. Obama should be a gold mine of material for a satirist, but SNL’s heart just isn’t in it.

If you haven’t already found it here are a couple of examples from Mark Steyn.

“Up next: His stunning victory in this year’s Miss World contest. Dec. 12, Johannesburg. “

or better yet,
“... his supporters voted for him not to win a war but to win a victory on health care and other domestic issues. Why squander your presidency on trying to turn an economically moribund feudal backwater into a functioning nation state when you can turn a functioning nation state into an economically moribund feudal backwater?”

Just watched the video...when SNL starts having ZerO swinging his head from side to side reading his faithful teleprompter then it will be more correct.

When he mentioned Geithner, Bernanke, and Summers the audience seemed lost. They don’t know who any of them are since they are part of the ignorant out there.

Mike Myers was funny when he was on. That was a decade ago. I haven’t watched in years.

Lame. How could professional comedy writers blow such a golden platter opportunity?
Now I remember why I stopped watching SNL over 20 years ago with the exception of the few years when Phil Hartman was on, before his wife killed him. It’s worse than the Charles Rocket year at this point.

SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE MOCKS OBAMA FOR NOBEL PRIZE WIN

Very mild mockery, if you can call it mockery at all. Expecting SNL to seriously attack Obama isn't realistic.

The guy does a terrible job imitating BO. The raised chin thing is completely missed. The mannerisms are completely missed. In all, I think SNL is doing him a big favor by not exaggerating the mannerisms that are arrogant and condescending.

In terms of mocking him on this issue—I think this was about a gentle as it is possible to be. This took ridiculous and made it mildly funny.

____________

I keep wondering when they will accuse Obama of being a war criminal and a torturer? Isn’t he still running those “illegal” wars over there? Those wars for “oil”? etc., When will we see the protests against this Imperialist War-Mongering Oil-Whore known as Barack Hussein Obama?

That was It!

The impression was lame but I had empathy for the actor - because he engaged the audience - he was looking straight at the camera, something Obama NEVER does...

He threw out a 'meatball' on Geitner, etc. being liars and the audience had no clue - What a voting block :(

Saturday Night Live debuted 34 years ago today. I know that, because today is our 34th wedding anniversary, and it debuted the night we got married. Didn't see the first show, myself. ;o)

But it hasn't been really funny since before Clinton was elected. They larded it up with political humor, that was almost always negative in its flavor toward Republicans. One exception to that was Dana Carvey's portrayal of GHW Bush, which was really cute, and not nasty at all. The President even contacted Dana and told him he liked it!

The opening skit with “Obama” was horrible. Completely flat and not even funny. I am sure I could have written a much, much funnier one. They were teed up with an amazing shot (the Nobel) and they crapped out.

Worse was the News segment where the news guy kept trying to insult Rush Limbaugh, making, of all things, FAT jokes repeatedly about him, and showing a photo of him about 80 lbs heavier than he is today. When he was standing next to Jay Leno on Jay’s show, Limbaugh looked thinner. Wake up and quit mocking his size.

The also tried to scorn Rush as a drug addict. Oh ho ho. Such subtle, intelligent humor. Do they rip Chevy Chase for his addictions? Belushi? Farley? I wonder which early SNL alums did NOT have an addiction?? But if you are on the left and struggling with addiction, you are a HERO.

The humor was sucky on that show tonight (I watched it a day late), except for the wonderful guy who plays that Italian talk show host. I absolutely love him. His James Carville is funny too. Give that guy more parts. Also, the mocking of Drew’s babyish lisping and Valley Girl style of speech was funny. Admirable when stars can mock themselves.
