I hope Nobel members feel pleased with themselves, the smug idiots
Guardian UK online ^ | 10/09/09 | Michael White

I hope the members of the Nobel committee feel pleased with themselves for giving this year's peace prize to Barack Obama.

I bet they do, the smug idiots. It is hard to imagine a more effective way to undermine him both at home and abroad. It smacks hugely of sentimentality and condescension.

Disdain for the award from the Middle East, Pakistan and other regions that have felt the sharp edge of American hard power – bombs and missiles included – since the president was inaugurated on 20 January will more than outweigh the warm, fuzzy feelings that the news will generate for a few minutes among those in the rich world who wish him well.

Nor will it do much for the president at home, where he is fighting on even more fronts than he is overseas and – so far – with an equally conspicuous lack of tangible success.

It is wrong to write off the Obama presidency after a mere nine months, as some are already doing. But it is also silly, very silly, to award him the Nobel peace prize when he hasn't delivered much peace, only eloquent, soaring rhetoric.

LOL. Ya just can’t win. Perhaps the uber-left doesn’t know they are the peasantry to the Ivory Tower left?

What a fiasco these awards have become. They no longer have any meaning.

What if it’s discovered he’s not even the voice reading the teleprompter, but is actually just like Milli Vanilli?

Well I guess the same principle applies. I’m for a gong for the next Clint Eastwood movie - whatever it is.

This is utter twaddle isn’t it - even the liberals can see it’s a farce, love their cotton socks.

They are proud, politically correct Scandinavian Socialists. This is how they think. And remember, the last Norwegian of any accomplishment or prominence whatsoever was Alfred Nobel, who died in 1896.

Simply Amazing!!!
One has to realize that the 'accomplishments' the committee listed as the basis for award were not yet in existence.
AND even these so called 'accomplishments' were AFTER the Feb 1, 2009 nomination deadline. So after just 10 days in office...the one gets nominated for future 'accomplishments"
Guess we can now consider the Peace Prize as an Affirmative Action Award...
Simply Amazing!!!
Bow before the god zero that walks among us...

The world is a safer place just knowing he has got this prize! He is such a great world leader, and I am full of warm fuzzy feelings to him. I just didn't know that he hold the future in his ‘never seen hard work’ hands.
I gotta go now, .... getting emotional.....

Mmm that explains a lot, but Father Abraham when he went through a smokey hole sounded pretty Scandinavian to me.

I was once conducting a funeral and it was the days when tapes were in fashion and people put songs on to play at the crematorium. It was on the wrong side, and as the coffin went in the smurfs began to sing about going though a smokey hole. Oh .......

They still do that here. I have chosen Handel’s “I Know that my Redeemer Liveth.” Renee Fleming. I’m not a big smurf fan. In fact, I would have to say I am indifferent to them.

I'm with you on both your choices - but hymns are so much more appropriate than songs, that don't have the grandeur for churches.

the one in the anecdote (which was true and very embarrassing all around) would have been ‘when I need love’ by Leo Sayer.

‘Another one bites the dust’ by Queen is popular here.

All I want is the magnificent 4 line Doxology sang accapella, my wife can choose the rest

It's all about insulting George W. Bush one more time. In 2002 the committee was very open about the reason they awarded the prize to Jimmy Carter--"to kick President Bush in the leg."

Obama is the black Jimmy Carter.
