I set this site up, and it is a work-in-process. I am hosting with Godaddy (cute girls!), using "Website Tonight" templates. I want to flesh the site out with Google Earth, and links.

The font is inconsistent, and there is too much information! More concise, and I agree, use google maps.
Make the posts less than 200 words! Also, give lots of links. For instance, when he went to the Olympic committee, provide links to Chicago orgs involved, the official committee, info on Rio etc.
One thing that will save you a lot of time is to utilize pre-built widgets. There are several places you can get Google Earth widgets and possibly combine them with the XML feed from the White House news releases.

Google Earth seems like a good tool, and will take some time to learn. I am also pursuing a new mfg facility, so time is split. I hope to find volunteers to format it, and I will add content daily. I intend to go forward daily, and backwards as soon as feasible.
some humorous animation along the lines of “Where’s Waldo?” would be nice, as would a giant clock counting down his Carbon Footprint
But, getting more raw information out is better than none. Our enemy acts in darkness... but is getting bolder in the daylight!
