Tsunami - American Samoa - Photographs

I live here. Our own home was untouched but many were far less fortunate. I'm posting photographs of the devastated areas, homes, and businesses.

  Taputimu Coastline

  Leone Church

  Rescue Workers Evacuating Injured Over Broken Bridge

  93KHJ VW Bug overturned and quite a ways away from where it had been parked

• 

  Pago Pago Park was completely leveled

• 

  A "bus"...

  The bathroom is all that is left of this home.

• 

  Another home completely washed away.

• 

  Debris where houses used to be.

• 

  Another foundation is all that remains of a structure.

• 

  The Gogosina perched on land where the tsunami deposited it.

•

  Site of the old Soli's Restaurant, more recently Bay Hardware and Bay Café. Gone.

• 

  There were quite a few yachts like this one scattered around Pago Pago village.

• 

  Coffins in one cemetery in Satala were unearthed by the wave and strewn about.

  As you can see the devastation was severe. It is a miracle that more weren't killed or injured. Pray for those who lost loved ones, and for those who were injured.

Accroding to a search of this database there were 7 evenst of 6.5 or better in 1989, not just 1...
