Oh How We Need Duncan Hunter Today
Right in a Left World ^ | 9/23/09 | Lew Waters

Posted on 09/24/2009 12:53:02 PM PDT by pissant

Some of you may recall of long shot candidate for president in the 2008 election, Duncan Hunter and how he could never garner the support of Huckabee, Romney or McCain. Many really liked his positions and strong conservative principles, but just wouldn’t get behind a long shot candidate.

We ended up with super moderate McCain and in the election, had our clocks cleaned by Democrats playing the race card resulting in the apologizer in chief we now have, Barack Obama.

Hunter retired from the House and his son ran for his seat and won, holding it today.

Both father and son are Veterans, the older of Viet Nam and the younger of the War on Terror in both Iraq and Afghanistan.

As I pointed out in August 2007, Hunter was The Most Consistent Candidate in the running, but remained ignored by too many.

To me, Hunter was The Right Man For The Right Reasons, but he remained largely ignored by the media, who we all know do not care for conservative values or taking a strong stance on protecting America and those waiting for a resurrection of Ronald Reagan.

As is said, we get the government we deserve and boy, did we get it this time.

No real sense in “I told you so’s,” as Hunter has retired and it is unknown whether he will return to politics or not.

He has not being totally silent, though, as can be seen in a short paper he authored, Substituting Hope for a Policy pointing out weakness in Obama’s foreign policies that will not bode well for America, just as Jimmy Carter’s decimation of America hurt us and in large part propelled Ronald Reagan into the presidency, even though he was not as popular as he was to become at the time.

As can be seen in the above linked post, we need Hunter back in politics at some level. We need his strength, his level-headedness and yes, his Patriotism and belief in a strong America to counter little tin horn despots, as was seen just today by the rambling speech at the United Nations by Libyan leader Muammar Qaddafi immediately after yet another apologetic diatribe by Barack Obama.

It is unknown if Hunter will ever seek high office again and personally, I doubt he will, what with the treatment he received from so many voters in 2008. But, we sure could use his strong voice and steady hand in the cabinet of who will be the replacement for Obama in 2012 as Secretary of Defense.

For one, I would like to hear him speaking out like Sarah Palin did in Hong Kong, shooting straight from her hip and speaking of real hope, not fabricated socialism masked as hope.

To this end, some of us Hunter supporters have proposed setting up occasional tele-conferences with him to “pick his brain on the hot topics of the day.”

Bloggers taking part in the calls could then spread out the message of hope in America and give conservatives strong ideas and let them know all is not lost.

Positive comments to show Duncan would be beneficial to let him know there are still strong Americans who stand for freedom and liberty and traditional American values of working hard to succeed instead of waiting on a government handout.

We hope to begin these calls within a couple weeks and blogging on them.

Many who wouldn’t support Hunter said he had strong conservative values and even went so far as to say his ideas for America were the best. Now is the time to show everyone that we do appreciate Hunter’s Patriotism and even though not in the White House, his is a strong voice America needs to hear.

To Duncan, should you read this, Welcome Home, Brother.

He was not in the running last time because he basically didn't run. I was in an district of Cedar Rapids Iowa last year. Which happens to be the second biggest city in Iowa. He was totally non existent there during the primary. No adds of any sort that we saw. And on the day of the caucus where was his campaign? At the primary vote they gave a few minutes for someone to stand up and say a few words about each candidate. Someone even stood up for Rudy, who had completely given up on Iowa. But there was NO ONE to stand up and say anything fro Hunter. Finally some random guy who was going to vote for someone else stood up and said something on his behalf. THAT was his level of presence in the first primary. If that was the effort in 08 I say no thanks for next time.

We need someone that actually wants it. Everyone accused Fred Thompson of not trying hard enough and he was vastly more active in the Iowa caucus than Hunter.

oh him!

Mr No show...maybe not his fault but 95% of the voting public never heard of him back in ‘08 election cycle.

Fred Thompson was another one who phoned it in...no fire in the belly for the job.

"ZZZZZZZZZZZZ......."

Sorry someone awoke you from your nap.

Yes, Duncan Hunter doesn't have the "gift of gab", and he was weak in articulating his positions. Therefore, any article about him is not worth considering. But I know, he was one of the last Reagan conservatives.

Rep. Hunter did more for our Constitutional principles than you know. I followed his career, and he was a hero to me. Got Google if you don't believe me?

On what basis would an ex-Rep who failed to gain traction during his 20+ years in the House, be able to gain it now that he's out of office and even less in the public eye?

Mr. Hunter may have very fine ideas. But the fact that he had a long House career and basically nobody outside his district had ever heard of him speaks volumes about his ability to garner public attention.

That would be a good ticket. If Sarah could team with Hunter she may be able to shake off the stench of MeInsane. She is young and after being Hunter's VP for 8 years could move across the street into the big house in 2020.

I like Duncan Hunter. I like Duncan Hunter one “H” of a lot. I’d like to see the man lead us back to the sanity that was the America not only I knew, but most everyone that wasn’t on drugs, or somewhat mentally lacking knew and loved as well, simply because IMO he is capable of doing so.

He isn’t making any personal effort towards the goal of campaigning for the Presidency as far as I can see, but it’s early yet. He didn’t make a real effort the last time either.

Yes he put his name on the piece of paper and threw it in the hat, but despite whatever monies he did spend at it, it wasn’t enough to convince most people he was serious about running for POTUS.

A little showmanship, as in getting the attention of the public is in order along with throwing the paper with your name on it into the hat.

Duncan Hunter is a serious guy, and serious people don’t usually have that outgoing personality that wins the numbers in spite of their record on serious matters of concern to those of us who don’t give a rats butt about the smiles. I remember one very serious guy, but he was one in a million.

Yeah, should Duncan Hunter exert himself, make us believe he really wants to be POTUS, and straighten this place up again we at the ranch will back him all the way.

Right now though it’s really the time to discuss and promote the taking of as many conservative seats in Congress in 2010 as possible, then we need to address 2012.

Duncan Hunter is a good man. I have nothing bad to say about him other than trowing his support behind The Huckster after dropping out didn't sit well with me.

I don't think he has a chance at president but if he plays his cards right maybe VP. Not enough name recognition and comes off a little to war mongerish (not that I personally feel that's a bad thing).

Feel free to promote him and may the best man (or woman) win.

Duncan Hunter is an excellent conservative. He has not demonstrated an ability to motivate conservatives as Palin has. Though Boehner may not be as conservative, he is charismatic and appears to have far superior motivational skills. Hunter would be excellent as Sec of Def.

We live in a shallow society. Rock star is easy, they want easy instead of actually looking to the facts and records.
And they want to be a ‘winner’....no matter how bad their candidate is...just ‘win’!

Pissant, they don’t WANT to listen to Hunter! You and I both know that the crowds Hunter spoke to were enthralled with his ‘speech’....that he has given some of the best speeches ever while he was in Congress. He attracted many more than McCain where ever he went. He’s a statesman, he’s not afraid to speak the truth.

To post 32 - Hunter has earned the utmost respect and admiration of conservatives but your remarks would be akin to saying Reagan should have been Bush's veep in 1980 and 1984.

If she runs, the GOP primaries will be but a formality, for Mrs Palin will sweep them all.

And your underhanded swipe at Mrs Palin's ability doesn't go unnoticed, Typical of your ilk.
