The man ignored my question, but reiterated his contempt for this theology. When did it become “liberal” to condemn people because of their theology? Isn’t this an example of bigotry? When did liberalism become a religion that teaches its adherents to be intolerant of other beliefs?

Very good question. Why is this hatred a basic tenet of liberalism and “tolerance” nowadays?
This same idiotic reasoning applies to other issues too.
If you oppose same-sex marriage, then you are homophobic and bigoted.
If you oppose affirmative action, then you are racist.
If you oppose or want limits on abortion, you are misogynistic (sp?), and you want women to die on a coat hanger. You also oppose women’s healthcare if you oppose abortion on demand. Abortion is now part of “women’s health”.
If you oppose ever expanding gov’t programs to deal with every conceivable social problem, then you are hateful and bigoted against the people affected. For example, if you oppose giving schools their “fair share of resources”, then you are against education. If you oppose how we deal with homeless people and oppose further spending there, you are against helping the homeless. If you question or oppose more Section 8 housing, you hate the poor and oppose helping them, and prefer them to be homeless, and so on.
And everything is about hate. You hate gays, you hate women, you oppose women’s health, you hate the homeless, you hate poor people, according to this line of thinking. Any deviation from the orthodoxy labels you a hater.
if you oppose anything obama does you must be a racist because obviously everything he does is perfectly rational and backed by the evidence so what else could the reason be?
