Here is video of South Carolina Sen. Jim DeMint talking with Fox News' Brian Wilson today from the Capitol in Washington, D.C., where the 9/12 "Taxpayers March on Washington was taking place.
Wilson characterized the crowd as being "tens of thousands," but when DeMint began speaking, he immediately corrected Wilson by saying there were "hundreds of thousands" of people in attendance.
DeMint said the huge crowd present were "average Americans" who had come to Washington to tell their Government they "want their country back." He said they are "tired of being lectured to," and they "want to be listened to." . . . (VIDEO)

Actually the true estimate is somewhere between 1.2 and 2 million!!!

Huge crowd, yes. But not two million.
We were there and have seen a lot of crowds on the mall for inaugurations, July 4th festivities, marches, etc. Two million would not fit on the Mall in its two mile stretch.
Best estimate from experience? - 200,000 plus. For those familiar with the Capital and the Mall, the crowd filled the Capital west lawn, the area around the Grant reflecting pool, and west to Fourth street. It started encroaching on another groups permit west of the Grant statue. It could be another 100,000 to 200,000 because they were forced to spread out along the sides of the rally because of the permit limits and the loudspeakers range.
It was a very large crowd, far beyond expectations, but too many groups inflate the numbers (mostly libs). It was NOT tens of thousands as the CNN NBC crowd are trying to say, but more like hundreds of thousands. BTW, the DC or Park Police do NOT make estimates, so anyone saying so is wrong.
Not bad for a rally organized by amateurs with no coordinating megalith like unions or the NAACP. Just real people. Almost ALL of the thousands of signs were handmade, not the fancy pre-printed ones handed out by liberal groups like MoveOn and SEIU.
It’s weird how the state run “media” NEVER challenges the numbers when the lefties have their little get togethers.
ABC news led off the hour with a report on pro-”health reform” people greeting obama today in MN- interviewed one of them. total robot.
Obvioulsy a bigger story than 200K protesters on the national mall (sarc).
Good going patriots. The left sees you.
I hope DeMint knows those people are yelling at his party as much as the democrats.
If only each of Beck’s viewers sent $1 to Joe Wilson.
I believe you are right.
Can’t remember an event, but I recall media claiming a million when only 100k showed up. MEdia inflate left wing related rallies
This is the crowning of BO.
They say it's 2 mill
Why is Michelle Malkin claiming 2 million? She will look pretty stupid if it is far from that.
Thanks. Very insightful information. It looked like a tremendous crowd, and a tremendous success.
I don’t know. It’s obviously hard to estimate. Hopefully it will become more clear.
Don't send more money to Wilson. that is one of the safest GOP districts in America. Send it to Michelle Bachmann and Jean Schmidt instead. I wish the KosNazis would send $5 million to Wilson's opponent. It wont help. He won't get more than 35%.
Probably the million mom march, which arguably had *maybe* 1/10th of that.
The “Milion Man March” in 95 was esimated at ~ 850,000.
Wow. ABCRadio saying 1.2 million. I’m shocked.
Yes, but I was responding to
“Cant remember an event, but I recall media claiming a million when only 100k showed up. MEdia inflate left wing related rallies”
I’m pretty sure the million MOM march fit the bill for that.
This was an anti firearms rights march that the Brady Bunch helped organize.
The story is now how the MSM refuses to cover it:
“Demonstrators gathered on the west side of the Capitol on Saturday and the crowd stretched for blocks” from a CNN story just a few minutes ago.
or this:
Thousands march to US Capitol to protest spending
By NAFEESA SYEED
WASHINGTON (AP) - Thousands of people marched to the U.S. Capitol on Saturday, carrying signs with slogans such as “Obamacare makes me sick” as they protested the president’s health care plan and what they say is out-of-control spending. ...
My point was that I believe this event was larger than the Million Man March and that got wall to wall coverage on ALL networks.
Malkin says ABC News reports 2M. I just browsed ABC News and the biggest number I see there is 60,000 to 70,000.
The crowd was so obviously more than 70,000, but I’d like to see the higher figures nailed down.
He is well aware, trust me.
Look at the picture.
Remove the crowd immediately in front of Obama (200 feet) - that the plaza which was off limits.
Now look down the Mall and see the small white building on the left side of the Mall just beyond the Reflecting Pool of the Grant statue. That’s about where the crowd petered out (around Third St). Anything beyond that was not part of this crowd. There were hundreds beyond there coming and leaving, but not part of the listening crowd.
Also, it was a long day, so many came early and left early, especially since they couldn’t hear well at the far reaches.
At any given time in the day there were probably 200,000, +/- 100,000 contemporaneously assembeled.
I’d like to say two million, but that has never been seen in Washington, even for Obama’s government/lobbyist/union financed crowning. The 4th of July fireworks gets about 500,000 and that fills the Mall.
Add in some more thousands to the near left and right of Obama crowd because this crowd extended more to the sides than the Inaugural crowd.
Time lapsed video of the march from that webcam. Pretty cool.

Well, I guess the MSM lies.
Is anyone really surprised? LOL!
That is amazing!
I think that estimate is too high. I was there and could believe several hundred thousand, but not a million. Don’t trust anything that the media says, even if you want to believe it. The mall was not full, it backed up to about 4th Street and then started to drop off after about 1:00.
The organizers tried to sue the National Park Service to force them to make the count 1 million. The Park Service had originally estimated the crowd at 400k.
The organizers of the million man march passed the hat, asking everyone to give a buck to help defray the costs.
They collected less than 100k.
Which led me to believe that the even the 400k figure was bogus.
