pictures of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata were leaked ahead of schedule. Apparently, Hyundai was scheduled to release 'sketches' of the 2011 Sonata in the next ten days ahead of the major auto shows. However, the real pictures, snapped at a photo shoot at an advertising agency, have found their way to numerous Korean forums and blogs.
The 2011 Sonata features a four-door-coupe-like roofline and a stubby rear-end. It is safe to assume these pictures depict the Asian and US version of the Sonata as Hyundai has now released the official 'sketches' (in response to the leak) to the media outlets in these two markets. We'll have to wait for the official launch to learn details about the engine range.

But...it’s a Hyundai
Looks like a rip-off the the Mercedes CLS line....
Too bad. I’ve liked the Jaguar-styling they’ve had in the past few years.
They are apparently targeting a different consumer with the new model. It looks okay, but truly completely different.
Shiny! Will there be a Cash For Clunkers redux in 2011 so I can get one??
So? Have you driven a Sonata? The newer ones (2006-present) are high quality and attractively priced.
Ugh! I want a real trunk.
Styling sells, it looks very stylish, soon to be copied by the US Automakers. Maybe GM should bring back the 57 Chevy 2 dr HT to compete with the imports. s/
Smooth. 240 km/h on the speedo might be a little optimistic but I’ll wait for the road tests. BTT.
I agree but that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
A year or two ago in an interview a high level Toyota official said that Toyota’s number one competitor was going to be Hyundai. He cited Hyundai’s huge manufacturing capacity, not only in S. Korea but worldwide, and he said Hyundai had adopted quality control measures similar to Toyota.
They’re still going strong in that bastion of innovation known as Cuba.
Or the Volkswagen CC (bottom pic)...
Today’s Hyundais are very good cars.
Up until a couple years ago Hyundai was a cheap little strangely styled Korean bargain car, and then, something went terribly right. For those who haven’t paid attention to the newer Hyundais, a trip to a showroom is in order.
My daily driver is a Sonata with a hard to find I4/5 speed, it’s a car with the interior room of a Crown Vic that gives me a consistant 30 mpg. Built in Alabama. Brand new, $15 out the door. Who needs Government Motors?
We have a 2007 Santa Fe and I must say it’s probably the best car I’ve ever owned. Ours is the LE with no optional 3rd seat and all wheel drive.
I have a 2005 Tuscon with 63K miles - and utterly no problems in nearly 4 years of driving.
Exactly.
In other words.. It's not a Govt. Motors.
Bonus
The Entourage is the exception to this new rule. It sucks. My Elantra is great.
I’ve become very impressed with Hyundai lately. This car only reinforces my opinions. It is very attractive.
I had a brand-new Hyundai back around the time they first hit the US shores (I think it was 1987). It was later stolen, but I can't say I missed it much: I literally had to shut off the A/C when climbing even a small hill. The thing had NO power. I should have done a more thorough test drive, I guess... live and learn!
I have heard the new Hyundais are a vast improvement over the old ones, though...
Yeah, that 10 yr/100,000 mile warranty is only for crappy cars.
My wife has an ‘07, too. We’re very happy with it. We had an ignition coil go bad, but that kind of thing can happen to any car these days.
I will give them credit where it's due. I have two Hyundais, a 2007 Entourage (bought the first model year in 2006) and a 2007 Elantra (bought in 2007). The Entourage is a lemon - never should have bought the first model year of it, but it was a "Recommended Buy" by Consumer Reports based on its cousin, the Kia Sedona, which had really good reviews. Funny enough, the following year's review on the Entourage was "Not Recommended."
Somehow Hyundai managed to screw up the Entourage. I'm not certain if they've fixed the problems by now, but there were so many things wrong with the 2007 and 2008 models, that I wouldn't recommend either year as a used vehicle.
My Elantra, which I bought knowing full well how bad the Entourage was, has done nothing but please me. I have beat that car up for two years now and it still runs like a top. Never less than 30 MPG per tank and it zips right along in commute traffic. Four full-sized adults can sit in it fairly comfortably - maybe not for a long trip, but certainly around town. If I could get out from under the Entourage, I would, but that thing has lost more value over three years than my down payment could cover.
We all love em and have had zero problems.
