House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers (D-Mich.) could face a tough reelection race in 2010, according to a new, independent poll released this weekend.
40 percent of Conyers's constituents said he deserved reelection, according to a poll conducted earlier this month by the Lansing, Mich.-based Deno Noor Polling, in conjunction with the Rossman Group and Perricone Group.
44 percent of Detroiters represented by Conyers said they would prefer to elect someone else. 15 percent were unsure or didn't know.
The 80-year-old Conyers has served in Congress since 1965, making him one of the longest-serving members of Congress still in office. He could face a challenging reelection, though, due to the conviction of his wife, Monica Conyers, for bribery charges incurred while she served as President Pro Tempore of the Detroit City Council.
Rep. Conyers has dodged questions about his wife's conviction, and it isn't clear whether the couple has maintained a close relationship in recent years.
Still, 76 percent of those surveyed said the conduct of Monica Conyers wouldn't affect how they would vote for her powerful husband.

I’ve been saying it...some household names are going to get sent home in 2010. I think you may see this in ‘safe’ seats in both parties. I think you may see people that nobody’s ever heard of who spent next to nothing getting elected simply by being the guy who isn’t the incumbent.
Maybe he’ll be taken out in a primary like Cynthia McKinney was in Georgia.

He could be primaried. His poor showings in his races for Mayor of Detriot are proof of that. Whoever succeeds him won’t be any better, no doubt, but it would make great propoganda to have someone this senior lose.
Well, you know my opinion on the subject. Unless the far-left Democrat is replaced by a bonafide Conservative, it’s better for our cause to keep the moonbat. Replacing Cynthia McKinney with Hank Johnson, who votes nearly identical to her, didn’t do anything for us.
True, but Detroit is filled with liberals who say and do foolish and unethical things.

How could you have a guy who had been there for eons, an economy that has been melted down, on a local basis, for decades and not have an opinion on the wisdom of his reign continuing? I know, it's Detroit...but...
I told Dh that I felt like running against Zack Space here. He’s not very popular with the votes he’s cast this year and my campaign platform can be:”I don’t plan to stay in Congress forever no more than 3 terms and someone else can take my place!, I can’t possibly screw things up as badly as the “experinced” represenative has, and I’ll only do what the majority of my voters want me to do, I’m not for sale!” LOL I’m too poor though and don’t hold a degree.
It’s a racial thing that I’m not allowed to understand or point out.
If the Republican Party is smart, they will select a dynamic, younger black citizen for that seat who leans a bit right..and run him in the primary under the (D) label.
The Republican’s did a LOT to help Michael White defeat George Forbes for mayor of Cleveland about 15 years or so ago.

Getting rid of this traitorous communist slug would be a major victory for America. Perhaps a democrat military veteran who still believes in honor and honesty could take the seat away from this thief.
I know, democrat and honorable are contradictory but stranger things have happened.
