The dangers of driving while texting (DWT) are undeniable, yet people continue motoring along, heads down, fingers flying, as they clog up traffic or swerve in and out of lanes. In a nod to the classic blood-and-guts driver's ed films of the '50s and '60s, a police department in Wales has decided the best way to raise awareness of the deadly DWT epidemic is to disgust and scare the crap out of people.
The new public service announcement, which spares no details, includes snapping necks, piercing screams, blood galore, an orphaned child, a dead infant, and multiple helicopters. The only thing apparently missing is a flattened, cute little puppy. While the spot may seem disturbingly graphic, it does effectively deliver the message. Hopefully, it will make its way from Wales to the States, and, more importantly, become required viewing in high school driver's ed classes everywhere.
Here's a link to the video directly on youtube.

I get to ride in a helicopter if I text!?!
They just passed a no texting law in TN. I’m not sure what I think.
Before you could hold the phone up in your line of vision to text. Now you have to keep it below the dash which takes your eyes off the road.
Ha, at least you get a one in three chance. It’s sort of like Russian roulette.
Great video though, props to those who made it. And it’s not just for teens, I’m sending it to my adult family and friends too.
We need to encourage teens to start smoking again. It’s gotta be hard to hold a cigarette in one hand, and the steering wheel in the other hand, and text with the other hand.
We are here from the government, we are here to help you.
Aw hell, this just sounds like one of my kinky Saturday nights.
Too bad it was a staged set. Of course the wrecks and carnage of speeding drivers and drunk drivers in horrible accidents never got through to me ——just saying. I drive safe for other reasons ( think insurance premiums)
Send it via text, while driving.
We have a couple of those in our town. I call them ‘rollerskates with an engine’. Dangerous as hell.
Anyone caught texting and driving should just be beaten with a shovel. I’m sorry, but exactly how stupid is someone who texts and drives at the same time? And yet, I see people do it all the time. Perhaps they should just make special roads for idiots. I am SO sick and tired of avoiding these bone heads on the road.
Let's include people reading newspapers, maps and putting on make up.
Nanny state PSA’s are always so creative and well-done. These folks should get into the teen slasher movie racket while there’s still a market for it.
They can watch it on their iPhones, while driving...
And those that have been drinking or doping.
Did that Brit guy yell “Broken omelets!!!”?
Sounded about right.
They typically started like this one does, showing the actions of the drivers leading up to the wreck, and then switching to the aftermath. Seeing real decapitated heads and mangled, bloody corpses, sure got our attention! One image has stuck with me my whole life: a policeman picking up the upper torso of a man who was laying face down, when the head was lifted, you saw that the front half was missing and only goop/brain was hanging from the skull.
These films made even the most macho among us queasy! I suppose that's why they're not shown to high schoolers anymore (we mustn't shock their delicate senses!)
I don’t even like to talk to others in the car or have the radio on, when I’m driving... :-)
Good idea! I’m glad some folks are taking this seriously and not making stupid jokes.
Nicole Gallo , 19, of Clifton Heights, died instantly.
What is so wrong with paying attention to what your doing ?
When people tell me how great they are at multi -tasking it just tells me that they're at best mediocre at doing multiple things
The first thing I noticed is that she was driving on the wrong side of the road.
Served her right.
Wish I could show it to the 25-30 yo woman on I-4 last week in the left lane going about 50 mph with her cell phone propped on her shoulder, and applying eye shadow/make-up, oblivious to everything around her!!!
I’m all about that. (can you tell I was just out driving?!)
Sure, add them in!
Wow, check out the steering wheel, squished all the way back to the rear roof pillar. Also, I *hope* that was a spare tire sticking out the hatch - otherwise, it’s one of the front wheels.
I saw on TV a text stalking PSA that is incredibly stupid.
Besides, in the final analysis, they'll have done far more damage with their votes than they could ever dream of doing with their cars.
As I said before....You can’t get the body out of one of these because it’s has meshed with the metal....
That's not a Smart Car. It's a VW Crossfox
What they should do is graduate driver licenses on a scale. Age 15-16 (Red background on driver license) should only be allowed to drive during daytime hours and must have written parental permission if driving after that. Also should have mandatory car insurance.
Age 17-18 (Yellow background on driver license) should be probationary status where two speeding tickets or one drunk-driving penalty is immediate forfeiture of driver license. Mandatory car insurance as well
Age 19 and beyond (Green background on driver license) should be regular driver license.

O.K. thanks for clearing that up......
The fact that we fund the utterly useless Ad Council drives me out of my mind.

When I took driver's ed in high school, they taught us how to drink responsibly; how many drinks (of each kind) it would take to make us legally drunk in accordance with our weights; how long it would take to eliminate each drink; how to drink at a party without getting drunk (pacing); the types of food that slow alcohol absorption; etc. We were tested on this stuff to make darn sure we knew it.
It's a far better system than what they do now!
“..the biggest guy in the classroom (one of the football players, no less) passed out cold.”
I can’t remember anyone actually passing out in my class, but our gym coach, who taught the course, told us it was OK if any of us had to put our heads down during the films. And Yeah, quite a few of the football jocks had to do so!
(I never had to put my head down, but I’m sure I closed my eyes a few times! LOL!)
Quite a few others did the same thing.
