She didn’t get the answer because she never learned to multiply and divide in her head by memorizing multiplication tables in 3rd grade. They stopped teaching that in the sixties when “New math” became the rage and once slide rules and eventually pocket calculators became available.

I can multiply and divide whole numbers in my head faster than someone can enter them on a calculator and press the “=” key. “He’ll blow you away faster than you can read a vernier.” /Heinlein

I went from 2 euros is 3 bucks to 4 euros is 6 bucks. Add another 1.50 to get 7.50 and screw the change that goes in a jar.

Okay, I will say it.

This is a hit job by Regis and the Gang against one of the most notoriously conservative members of the Hollywood establishment.

The question is designed to make her look stupid and is not at all easy. It is definintely not in league with the dozens of first questions I have seen on the show which are much more like “how many fingers are there on the human hand?”

This is a complex logistical operation that prevents someone from using pen and paper to translate the $7.50 American economic value [while introducing the irrelevant chase away term of the Euro] into an array of denominations in coinage— pennies, quarters, etc.

This is ridiculous.

This celebrity is one of the most outspoken pro life advocates in America— let alone Holllywood. Her comments about Middle America and the TV show speak volumes about why a set of left coast juveniles decided to “show her” who is nicer and smarter.

I am glad I watched it. What a bunch of cheap conservative hating theater.

Typical.

Did you ever watch a woman hang a picture frame and try to figure out if it’s straight? I always keep my mouth shut and wait until my wife walks away before I straighten the pictures she just crookedly hung.

Not really--Regis had to talk her through the reasoning.

He solved it for her.

My wife reacts to math the exact same way.

She can do it, but just the word “math” makes her freeze up.

We got in a shouting match over this one.

Ryan was given $100 to shop with by his grandmother. He shopped in a store where he gets a 40% employee discount. What is the retail amount he can purchase with his $100?

She kept saying $140, and I tried to explain to her that the answer was $166.67 for over an hour. She just refused to see it.

Very frustrating!

The first time I ran through it in my head I got fooled by the ‘Seventy nickels’ answer because I still had $1.50 rattling around in me brain.

by process of elimination it has to be A (and I cannot add 30 quarters in my head eaither)

Ah, but I bet you could easily do 3 x 25 cents = 75 cents. Then just add the zero and, as Kelly Bundy says "urethra!"

there are 6 quarters in $1.50 hence 6x5= 30 quarters

“I got the $7.50 easy but that isn’t the correct answer.”

Once you get to that point it’s a piece of cake to determine the number of dimes (75), then the answer is obvious.

50 dimes is 5 dollars. 5 times $1.50 has to be more than 5. Can’t be B.

70 nickles is less than 50 dimes, which was too little. Can’t be C.

90 pennies can’t even make 1 dollar. Can’t be D.

Must be A.

that isn’t even a proper way to approach it

$1.50 consists of 6 quarters ( 4+2) so 5 euros will yield the following 6x5= 30 quarters

Ha! In this case your jar’s still empty.

Actually, once I had the $7.50 and $0.25 the answer was obvious because there’s 3 quarters in $0.75; thus 30 in $7.50. But, the other answers were so obviously wrong, this was a lesson in futility.

B.) 50 dimes: That’s $5.00...simple math.

C.) 70 nickels: That’s $3.50...simple math.

D.) 90 pennies: Easiest of all; $0.90.

Process of elimination was the easiest route, if one had the capacity to think of it under pressure...

No - I actually use a level I bought, to hang the picture I bought, with the nails and hammer I bought...because the husband of the house NEVER knows where his tools are and thinks the “Dogs Playing Pool” picture is art.

PS - I hide my tools when I done, if he only knew what was in that bottom drawer of the Jewelry chest.....
