Watching the recent town hall debates on health care, one thing is clear: they are not easy for members of congress. The crowds are passionate, loud, angry, frustrated, and worst of all informed. They are asking tough, specific questions. The types of questions that make politicians look foolish, because they don't know the answer.

YouTube is overrun with videos of politicians taking it on the chin in these meetings. From Arlan Spector being told a giant has awakened, to John Dingell being chastised by a man standing next to his son who has cerebral palsy. But to those politicians’ credit they are facing their constituents, and fielding those hard, pointed questions. I wouldn't go so far as to call them brave, but we can at least say they aren't cowards.

Then there was President Obama's health care town hall meeting. It was scheduled so the President could clear up misunderstandings about health care reform. I was looking forward to it. The President had been a community organizer. He had gotten people fired up to protest. He had made politicians uncomfortable. He had dished it out, now we would see if he could take it as well as he had dished it out in the past.

I never found out.

The questioners included an 11 year old child (whose mother actually has a picture of herself and President Obama on her facebook page) and such tough questions as: "President Obama, if the Republicans actively refuse to debate in a reasonable way with reasonable proposals isn’t time to pass the reform without them?" At one point someone in the crowd shouted "I love you" and President Obama replied "I love you back."

These weren't just a few planted questioners to ensure the President could make a few points. The entire room was stacked with Obama supporters. There were no voices representing opposing viewpoints in the room. That doesn't happen by chance, it has to be carefully planned and staged.

Can President Obama stand before a crowd of passionate citizens and field the tough questions they way he forced so many elected officials to do in the past? Can he take it as well as he dished it out years ago? We may never know, because when his time came he hid behind a stacked crowd that asked softball questions and shouted "I love you."

The only thing we learned from the Presidents town hall meeting is that President Obama is a political coward.

Exactly. If he were really a great public speaker he would have let in some of the protesters. Sure stack the audience, but let in say 10% real humans. Then when the anti-socialists speak he could lay the smack down on them in a classy and intelligent way. Think about Reagen's "I paid for this microphone" moment.

But Obama isn't a good speaker, just a good teleprompter reader. And he isn't even that good at that. He knows he can't face a hostile crowd without being shown to be the thug he actually is. Had he been less controlled by his own ego could have stayed out of it. Let Pelosi take the heat for this disaster and then come back with something that could be sold to the majority of Americans. Lincoln once said that it is better to be silent and thought a fool than speak and remove all doubt. Obama chose to open his mouth.

I think calling Obama a political coward is not only accurate, but it will get under his skin, unnerve him, and cause him to do something stupid (like actually answer a tough question) in a effort to prove he isn’t a political coward.

*BUMP* and bravo FRiend, 'Masters of Deceit' ought to be required reading by ANY person calling themselves a patriotic American because Hoover exposed their tactics as only a federal lawman could do. I read that book when I was in 7th grade, not because it was in my curriculum at school but because my family was and has always been virulently anti-Communist and I wanted to know more, and I checked out Masters of Deceit at the local library. I devoured it, not once but several times. An excellent read!

As for our latter day Democrats Communists, they'll graduate to the bomb section when they figure out how not to blow themselves up and when they fear they are losing their political power.
