NBC News False Reports on Missing Obama Birth Certificate
The Western Center for Journalism ^ | July 24th, 2009 | D. Golden Lee, Examiner.com

NBC News reports on missing Obama birth certificate.

On the NBC Evening News broadcast, anchor Brian Williams devoted 3 minutes this evening to the "conspiracy" theory of Obama’s Birth Certificate. He showed the sensational internet video clip of Rep. Mike Castle’s (R-Del.) town hall meeting where the assembled crowd angrily demanded Obama produce his actual Birth Certificate. NBC showed a close up of the words ‘Certificate of Live Birth’ from the document posted on Obama’s campaign website, but Williams erroneously called it Obama’s Birth Certificate, when in fact, they are very different documents. Williams’ report mentioned that the many lawsuits, seeking to force Obama to release his certified and notarized birth certificate, had been dismissed, but (he) failed to ‘esplane’ that (so far) the only Cause of Action to have been adjudicated (in all of these jurisdictions), has been the issue of standing rather than the central issue itself. Williams then played cuts of CNN’s Lou Dobbs and Rush Limbaugh (on-air) raising questions about this issue, but neglected to mention that such comments, by these two broadcast giants, were very recent developments and that they had previously shied away from this entire issue.

Obviously, NBC was attempting to present the advocates of this issue as extremists and conspiracy-nuts, on par with Moon landing hoaxers, 9/11 Truthers, UFO believers and Keynesian economists. Nonetheless, for Brian Williams to devote an up front segment, (on his national evening news show) to this issue, clearly demonstrates that (it) is gaining traction and credibility. After all, Obama could put the issue to rest entirely by simply allowing the release of his actual birth certificate, to say nothing of his college admission records and transcripts, which he has also refused to do.

While the ‘Bama’s exact place of birth may be debatable, it’s beginning to look certain that he has no birth certificate. He couldn’t get a security clearance without it, and I’m not even sure about a passport. If he has one, his place of birth would be anwswered. If he doesn’t have one, the better question would be “why doesn’t he”?

Brian Williams and the greater part of his industry is fighting for its life. Whither the ‘Bama goes, they will follow. The fact that they now feel the need to respond on the birth certificate issue only reveals their sense of quiet panic.

The problem is, if the liberal media is trying to portray the 'birthers' as lunatics, that's not going to sit well with people. I think people in the mainstream realise Barry could not have got where he is today without the media's help. If that same media is commenting on a 'crazy conspiracy theory' from Right Wing Christian Gun Nuts then people are going to start viewing them (the media) as being part of the conspiracy and this in itself validates the conspiracy/theory. The fact that the media is trying to hush the whole thing up does, in actual fact, bear all the markings of a conspiracy.

The media are only helping the birthers out with this. They probably think they're 'steering' it but information that is viral is chaotic. You can't control it. No way to predict what it will become or where it will go. After a while, once it becomes so big the well known snowball effect happens and once that baby gets rolling it creates its own effects.

We'll see.

At least it’s getting some play. This issue won’t go away until the truth comes out. The anointed one has only to make a phone call; and, that can even be on our nickel. Just tell the folks in HI to release the BC. Not that shabby stand-in that was posted on the internet; we want to see the real thing.

It’s time to take back the country.

Even the liberal LA Times on June 30, 2009 in an article dripping with contempt--conceded that the thing Obama's people posted online was "technically... not a birth certificate".

A bill in the US congress with 10 backers currently -- calls for future presidential candidates to be required to show a birth certificate. The library of congress has recently started including the Obama File in its historic collections of Internet materials related to the Presidential Transition during a Time of Crises. The Obama File holds that Obama's birth certificate as presented online is bogus.

Now this story is starting to change. Some liberals in an open acknowledgement of Obama's problems are starting to call for a change in the constitution.Liberal defenders of Obama in full retreat on Birth CertificateNow The LA Times Wants To Amend the Constitution Rather Than Have Obama Show His Birth Certificate. (Translation: Yeah he’s not a Natural Born Citizen — As the Constitution Requires.)

It will always come back to the issue of “oh well it’s in the vault in hawaii”, and then any sane person will say well then why don’t they take it out and put this to rest?
Personally I think the vast amount of other missing documentation is at least if not more interesting than the BC issue.

The problem for Obama, and the SRM as well, is that the average American citizen understands having to provide documentation for employment.

The SRM, having not done their jobs prior to the election, have to do some CYA or they’ll be exposed for the partisan hacks they really are.

The Democrats in power, will be exposed as the traitors they really are.

Below is potential future text of NBC News Anchor Brian Williams’ statement on the birth certificate documents purportedly in Obama’s procession from the state of Hawaii supporting his claim to be a Natural Born Citizen:

Last week, amid increasing questions about the authenticity of documents used in support of a NBC Nightly News story about President Obama’s Natural Born Citizen status, NBC News vowed to re-examine the documents in question-and their source-vigorously. And we promised that we would let the American public know what this examination turned up, whatever the outcome.

Now, after extensive additional interviews, I no longer have the confidence in these documents that would allow us to continue vouching for them journalistically. I find we have been misled on the key question of how our source for the documents came into possession of these papers. That, combined with some of the questions that have been raised in public and in the press, leads me to a point where-if I knew then what I know now-I would not have gone ahead with the story as it was aired, and I certainly would not have used the documents in question.

But we did use the documents. We made a mistake in judgment, and for that I am sorry. It was an error that was made, however, in good faith and in the spirit of trying to carry on a NBC News tradition of investigative reporting without fear or favoritism.

Please know that nothing is more important to us than people's trust in our ability and our commitment to report fairly and truthfully.

Actual on air comments by Dan Rather on 9-20-04:

Below is the text of CBS News Anchor Dan Rather's statement on the documents purportedly written by President Bush's National Guard commander:

Last week, amid increasing questions about the authenticity of documents used in support of a “60 Minutes Wednesday” story about President Bush's time in the Texas Air National Guard, CBS News vowed to re-examine the documents in question-and their source-vigorously. And we promised that we would let the American public know what this examination turned up, whatever the outcome.

Now, after extensive additional interviews, I no longer have the confidence in these documents that would allow us to continue vouching for them journalistically. You would think the press would have learned their lesson when Dan Rather got caught using forgeries.

the average American citizen understands having to provide documentation for employment.

I wouldn't even confine that to the average American. I think the average person, anywhere world wide understands that. We all have to produce our important documents at one time or another. The agencies we have to provide these to don't say '..or you can just sign here stating that you are who you say you are'. They want to see the original. And the little guy has to comply or he doesn't get his job/passport/license whatever he was applying for.

It's just common sense. Obama should just whip it out.

But, beyond that, someone who holds national political office can get a passport, clearance, anything without any corroborating information. Does Bobby Seale have a passport? I’m sure he does even though he is a convicted felon and Black Panther. If you have the title, you can get the credentials.

Let me get this straight: he thinks the Constitution is the PROBLEM?

quote:

"Unacknowledged in the wake of the Dobbsian nuttiness is the real villain of the Obama birther movement: The Constitution. It's precisely this sacred document that seeds the conspiracy theories over where President Obama was really born. Sure, the Internet does indeed facilitate such craziness (just as it facilitates smart observations that don't have an outlet in newspapers), but none of this would be possible without the following part of Article II, Section 1 in the Constitution: 'No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President.

Oohh, the Constitution that guarantees your right to free speech is a villian?

"So what should be completely irrelevant -- where Obama's parents were on a single day in 1961, an accident of history over which the president had no control but that could have disqualified him from office -- becomes legal cover for those who just want to "enforce the law." Witness Rep. John Campbell (R-California) using this defense to support a bill he sponsored to require presidential candidates to supply a birth certificate as proof of citizenship.

I hear whining. "That's not fair. Anybody should be allowed to be President."

"It's the Constitution that seeds this lunacy, and yes, the Internet allows it to grow. But amending the natural-born clause out of the Constitution (which The Times' editorial board supports) would remove that seed (plus be more fair to millions of naturalized U.S. citizens, and leave our country better off)."

unquote

The big unspoken trapdoor: the "naturalized" citizens (who may in fact be "undocumented immigrants"). Oh, they're here already, how rude to not just give them EVERYTHING!

Did I miss his /sarcasm tags?

Aloha GL!

I had a T/S Codeword Clearance in the Navy but was never asked for a Birth Certificate.

That's because you were at school while ONI and FBI were doing your BI. The Feebies called on my mother and got all the pertinent information including all addresses where we lived (my dad was career Navy...so they pounded a lot of pavement), interviewed neighbors and checked the local LEO's records for traffic or other violations; all this during the year at DLI.

I'm a big Notre Dame football fan.

This Obama birth certificate mess reminds of the Notre Dame football scandal a few years ago when the famous university hired a famous, very successful football coach who was coaching at Georgia Tech at the time.

1. As I remember the story, the famous Georgia Tech football coach accepted the head coaching at Notre Dame, but a few weeks later, he was forced to resign in disgrace.

2. It seems, if I remember the story correctly, the coach had padded his resume as he moved up the coaching ranks through the years.

3. I don't think that Notre Dame officials did a thorough, intense job of checking the coach's background, because I believe that it was someone NOT connected to the University who was the one who notified Notre Dame officials that the coach had written on his resume that he had received a Master's degree from a college in New York State.

4. However, in reality, the coach had taken some graduate courses, but he never received a Masters degree.

5. My point is this: Like in the Obama birth certificate issue, nobody at Notre Dame double-checked, or triple checked the coach's background to make sure that he was who he said he was.

6. No one at Notre Dame, it seems, bothered to check out the details of the Georgia Tech coach resume to make sure that all the information was correct; that is, no one contacted the university in New York to make sure that the coach did indeed receive a Masters degree and that he was who he said he was.

7. So I say this: Obama, allow Hawaii to release your 1961 long form birth certificate and allow Occidental, Columbia, and Harvard to release your college records.

8. Obama, the 1961 Hawaii long form birth certificate will come out sooner or later, and Occidental, Columbia, and Harvard will release your college records sooner or later.

9. Obama, if you don't allow Hawaii to release your 1961 long form birth certificate or you don't allow Occidental, Columbia, and Harvard to release your college records, I'm afraid that you will end up resigning or being voted out of office in disgrace just like that Notre Dame University football coach had to resign in disgrace a few years ago.

To amend the Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971 to require the principal campaign committee of a candidate for election to the office of President to include with the committee’s statement of organization a copy of the candidate’s birth certificate, together with such other documentation as may be necessary to establish that the candidate meets the qualifications for eligibility to the Office of President under the Constitution.

How can the democrats deny this one? What excuse would they have to say no? No voter wants to be subject to a rouge nation or any other nation.

If the democrats were to deny this bill, more and more people are going to demand to see Obomas certificate before the 2012 election. It's a given. A "no" vote would only put fuel on the fire.

Obama, you better tell your supporters to back off and stop calling birthers ugly things like kooks, eccentrics and worse, because your supporters are making it worse for you when it comes to the 2012 presidential primaries and presidential elections, if you even dare to run for a second time.

1. Obama, let me tell you this: The birther movement has grown beyond your control and is increasing by leaps and bounds with each passing day.

2. So, if your supporters keep calling birthers ugly names like kooks, eccentric, and crazies, then when the 2012 presidential primaries and presidential elections come around, you are going to see a lot of birthers enter the voting booth who will be angry that your supporters called them all kinds of foul names during your first term.

3. So, Obama, once again, tell your supporters to back off from calling birthers all kinds of rude and insulting names, or you will surely end up as a one term president, because the ever-increasing birthers movement will vote against you in the 2012 primaries and presidential elections.

NBC showed a close up of the words ‘Certificate of Live Birth’ from the document posted on Obama’s campaign website...

This statement is obviously false.

The document posted on Obama's website was the CERTIFICATION of Live Birth. If NBC showed a close up of a document that said "CERTIFICATE", then NBC was engaging in a journalistic fraud. If they showed the Obama document then the word in the close-up must have been CERTIFICATION.

This is a crucial distinction since the long sought "long form" or "archival" Birth Certificate is indeed called a "Certificate of Live Birth".

If NBC has it, let them show the whole thing, not just the title.

There would be a paper original. AFIAK paper originals are not destroyed when anything goes paperless. Just when someone “brings up a file” it will be the digital copy rather than someone going to the file cabinet or box in the basement to pull the paper copy.
IIRC the governor(?) of Hawaii said she had “seen” the original.

Per Article 2, Section 1 of the U.S. Constitution, one must be a natural born American citizen to serve as President. Barack Obama is NOT eligible for the Presidency because he is not a natural born citizen. John A. Bingham, primary framer, 14th Amendment, states- “Every human being born within the jurisdiction of the United States of parents not owing allegiance to any foreign sovereignty is, in the language of your Constitution itself, a natural born citizen.” Obama himself has stated that he is the son of a Kenyan- Kenya being a foreign sovereignty. Thus, Obama is not a natural born citizen even if he were actually born in Hawaii.

Do you know who Barack Obama is? Is he NOT a natural born citizen? Check these out-

Original birth certificate - Not released
Obama/Dunham marriage license - Not released
Soetoro/Dunham marriage license - Not released
Soetoro adoption records - Not released
Besuki School application - Released
Punahou School records - Not released
Selective Service Registration - Released and under suspicion
Occidental College records - Not released
Passport (Pakistan) - Not released
Columbia College records - Not released
Columbia thesis - Not released
Harvard College records - Not released
Harvard Law Review articles - None (maybe 1, unsigned?)
Baptism certificate - None
Medical records - Not released
Illinois State Senate records - None
Illinois State Senate schedule - Lost

University of Chicago scholarly articles - None

Now they are saying that all birth certificates were destroyed in 2001. But on October 31, 2008, this contrary statement-

“There have been numerous requests for Sen. Barack Hussein Obama’s official birth certificate. State law (Hawai‘i Revised Statutes §338-18) prohibits the release of a certified birth certificate to persons who do not have a tangible interest in the vital record. Therefore, I as Director of Health for the State of Hawai‘i, along with the Registrar of Vital Statistics who has statutory authority to oversee and maintain these type of vital records, have personally seen and verified that the Hawai‘i State Department of Health has Sen. Obama’s original birth certificate on record in accordance with state policies and procedures.”
