Here is a video report on the Pentagon's announcement confirming the identity of the U.S. Soldier captured and being held by the Taliban in Afghanistan who appeared in a video released last night.

The soldier is identified as Pfc. Bowe Bergdahl of Ketchum, Idaho. He was captured on June 30 this report says, after wandering away from his base without his weapon or his body armor. In the tape released, Bergdahl says he is scared he won't be able to return home, and after being prompted by a captor off camera, he appeals to Americans to bring all the troops home. What did he have in mind, a walk in the park? I’m sorry, but this kid screwed up big time!

It doesn’t make sense. How can you just walk off the base- with three Afghans and without your body armor or weapon. Aren’t there sentries? Unless it was something done on a regular basis- leave with a few trusted locals to get a girl or smoke a joint and the sentries looked the other way.

Romance with the local girls is very risky business over there.

The soldier is Bowe Bergdahl, 23, a private first class with the 1st Battalion, 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team stationed in Fort Richardson, Alaska, the military said in a statement. The team is a unit of the 25th Infantry Division, stationed in Hawaii.

Do any Freepers
know why this soldier may have
walked off by himself?

I sure don't know, but by doing so he has compromised the whole action plan, and given the enemy a great deal of leverage.

I feel sorry for the kid, but he is no hero.

Maybe he had another motive? What religion is he? Was this part of a plan?

Who knows? Now good men have to risk their lives to retrieve him.

Would you guys suspect
the military knows where
he is being held?

Can special forces
try to rescue him with real
chances for success?
