The controversial message was pulled down over the weekend by the billboard's owner, SignAd, in response to intense media coverage and criticism from activists such as Quanell X, according to the leader of the conservative grassroots group that sponsored the billboard.

Picture for those of us behind the “wall?”
Liberals can’t handle the truth.
What is a Quanell X?
Oh yeah, that’s controversial.
It’s the brand name that”Gas-X” goes by in South Africa. Sort of like how Burger King is Hungary Jack’s in Australia.
Is it true?
As they say, if you want to make a conservative mad, tell him a lie. If you want to anger a liberal, tell him the truth.
Question: What is a Quanell X?
Answer: A first class moron / dead beat
MLK’s niece has said that he was a Repub.
I’m not sure why Republicans want to claim MLK as one of their own. He was an anti-war Christian Socialist. (Yes, he was a Republican at one time...but went farther and farther left during the 60s)
Found this in Wikipedia relating to Sr.
“In October 1960, when Martin Luther King, Jr. was arrested at a peaceful sit-in in Atlanta, Robert Kennedy telephoned the judge and helped secure King’s release. Although King, Sr. had previously opposed Kennedy because he was a Catholic,[citation needed] he expressed his appreciation for these calls and switched his support to Kennedy. At this time, King, Sr. had been a lifelong registered Republican, and had endorsed Republican Richard Nixon. King, Jr. made no endorsement,”
More weak-kneed Republicans.
In her article, "A Covenant With Life: Reclaiming MLKs Legacy", his niece, Dr. Alveda C. King, affirms that her uncle Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a Republican
Remember that back then this wouldn't have been odd as the Dems were blocking civil rights.
I wonder if Mr. Susan Sontag finds this chilling.
Who cares about freedom and voting rights? The Dems give you $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.
A waste of saliva were you to spit on him.
He is a Nation of Islam thug; an Al Sharpton wannabe.
a waste of combustion should you set him on fire.
That’s actually not the particular billboard in Houston. Those highway signs in the background are for Interstate 26 in South Carolina. But there was a thread yesterday that had a picture of the Houston billboard on it and it looked pretty much the same.

I take it the controversy was sparked by someone telling the truth, which is that MLK Jr. was an adulterous Commie?

How was this possibly controversial? He WAS a Republican. It’s like saying “Washington was a president,” and then having people protest it because he wasn’t a president exactly like Obama is a president, since things were different back then. Who cares?
Race-hustlers have to protect the 90+% Democrat voting trend amongst blacks, lest they lose their electoral significance (and their leaders lose their power/benefits). In furtherance of this end, blacks must not be reminded that everyone voted Republican, almost by instinct, at least until FDR started chipping away, and certainly not until after the Civil Rights Movement and the Great Society.
“MLKs niece has said that he was a Repub.”
Like we need her confirmation. It is a matter of record. Everyone knows it—or knew it.
no kidding but he’s declared diety by numbnuts here and by Sean
That kind gesture was kinda counterbalanced by Bobby illegally wiretapping King later.
The Reverend Martin Luther King was a Republican until Kennedy’s election.
He thought Kennedy was sympathetic to the civil rights movement so MLK decided not to have any party affiliation.
Ain't that the truth. And blames others for all your ills.
Maybe you hadn’t heard of it with MLK in particular. But surely you knew black people overwhelmingly, almost automatically, voted Republican following the Civil War, all the way up to the 1960s. Surely you also knew that the Democrats were the party of slavery and apartheid, again up until the 60s.
Somehow, Republicans didn’t get credit for backing civil rights legislation, and what’s worse, somehow got blamed for racism once the Dixiecrats jumped ship. It has a lot to do with the Welfare State, and the Democrats’ wild success using New Deal-style “identity politics”. It doesn’t help that Southern whites backed Jim Crow in 1960 and John McCain in 2008.
I’m personally content to remember that no major party has supported state-sponsored racism (at least consciously, though affirmative action probably applies) since the civil rights movement, while one big party supported racism for the entirety of its run up to the civil rights movement, and its name was Democrat.
I hadn’t really thought about it. There was a realization that the black community is being used by Democrats. And that Republicans were for civil rights. But I hadn’t really thought it through.
