Happy Independence Day, God Bless America!
You know, I do believe He does and will!
The strangest thing. Tonight, Mr sneakers and I were sitting on the porch. The sun was set, and the sky in the west was awash with color. I kid you not - it looked like a flag. Red-colored clouds in an almost stripe formation with yellowish white strips in between and blue above. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. I’ve never seen a sunset like that before. It made me smile. I tried to get a picture, but it was too dark by then.
I’m sure just a beautiful, lucky coincidence on the Fourth of July, but then, maybe not....
:-)
Amen.
It is traditional for me on the 4th of July to post the obituary of my great-great-great-great grandfather, Selah Woodworth Jr., and to drink a toast in his memory. He blew himself to Kingdom Come with a double-charged cannon on a long-ago Fourth, when Thomas Jefferson and John Adams yet lived, and the celebration was taken very seriously indeed.
I am working tonight, so the toast will come later, but here is the obituary, from the Amsterdam Herald of upstate New York:
And please join me also in a toast to his father Selah Sr., grandfather Caleb, and four uncles, all of whom fought for this country in the Revolutionary War; and to his great-grandfather Benjamin, who served in King Philip's War and was also a 7th great-grandfather of the elder George Bush.
