The speech Sarah Palin should have given.(With regards to Gen. MacArthur)

I am an admirer of Douglas MacArthur and remember a speech he gave to the people of the Philippines on his return. I also admire Palin and think she has the ability to inspire. She is no MacArthur, and she has much to prove, but we need something to fight for. Here is the speech with slight alterations to fit our time and place. I think the General would approve.

To People of the United States, I have returned. By the grace of Almighty God, our forces will rise again on American soil…. The time of our redemption is here…. Rally to me…. As the lines of battle roll forward to bring you within the zone of operations, rise and fight! Fight at every favorable opportunity. For your homes and hearths, fight! For future generations of your sons and daughters, fight! In the name of your sacred dead, fight! Let no heart be faint. Let every arm be steeled. The guidance of Divine God points the way. Follow in His name to the Holy Grail of righteous victory.

I am of the mind that Sarah Palin’s attorneys, on her resignation, begin to studiously collect and document new examples of libel directed against her and her family, with an eye that when a particularly egregious example happens, she sues their pants off.

But who would it be best to sue? Someone like Howard Dean, a high level Democrat apparatchik; or maybe some wealthy and repugnant media personality. I would find it immensely amusing if she won a hundred million dollar judgment against someone like Oprah or MSNBC.

Not a joke, just something to get the juices flowing. She was quite effective. Now onward and upward.

As a public figure, I don’t think she’s going to be able to shield herself and/or her family, any more than it could have been prior to her resignation. She’s still going to be wide-open for all kinds of remarks, no matter what, and legally permissible.

That is the traditional approach to libel. However, it is not an end-all, be-all rule. For example, her family are not public figures, or at least are only to a small and temporary extent. And depending on the maliciousness of the attacks, and if they are for politics or profit, also matters.

Remember that celebrities regularly sue tabloid newspapers and win.

My father was in the South Pacific during WWII.
He had several landings in New Guinea and
was wounded at the Invasion of the Philippines.

The catch phrase he and his comrades had was:
“Me and MacArthur, won the war.”

Now “We and Palin can win back this nation”.
