Chris Cillizza at The Fix has sources that counter what NBC's Andrea Mitchell is reporting about the reason for Gov. Sarah Palin's decision to resign her office. Cillizza reports that a source close to Gov. Sarah Palin says Palin is resigning as Alaska Governor in order to build a team for a 2012 run for the GOP Presidential nomination. Andrea Mitchell is reporting sources who say Palin is quitting politics for good . . . .

Told ya.
Isn't it a bit early to call it?
NBC Nightly News big bold headline “PALIN QUITS”.
I am loving every minute of this —— it is getting better :-)
But, but, didn’t some really popular singer, that really deserves like 95% of the news just pass away? What is the media doing?
NO listen to what she said, not what others say she meant.
Sarah may be quiting politics, but it IS for GOOD and NOT for EVIL. :)
I don’t care what she does, short of becoming Newt in drag. I’ll follow her anywhere.
The lefties are scared. Big time. Tee-Hee! :)
Andrea Mitchell should move to CBS, she would be in great company with the Dan Rather’s and such. Just keep note of this, the second I ever believe a word that comes out of MSNBC I want to be put in an institution Ok LOL
Clearly she feels anything she does to further her potential presidential ambitions will lead to further frivolous ethics charges being filed.
So they are forcing her out, if she wants to run for president and I think she does.
Sounds like Andrea Mitchell, the rest of the msm, and the ol’ boys in the GOP club are all hoping that Sarah is finished. Only Bill Kristol and Mike Huckabee on Fox were civil about her speech today. Just yesterday crabby Krauthammer was saying she needed to “bone up” if she intended to run again. Now she has plenty of time to do just that, so Charles ought to be happy, but I suspect he won’t because it seems he doesn’t like women in politics.
As for her being “a quitter” because she didn’t finish her term, pray tell did anyone in the msm say that about Obama when he quit in the middle of his first term in the Senate...and was running for the presidency from Day 1? She certainly has put in more time on the job than he did, and it was an administrative job that she did very well.
Sources inside MSDNC say that Angry Mitchell was turned down by a crew of drunk submariners who had been at sea for 6 mos last night. She only offered them $500 each.
Pray for America and Saracuda
Considering Andrea Mitchell’s husband helped create the housing bubble, she should shut her face and be shunned from society like Mrs. Madoff.
bttt

Somebody help me...how is it bad that she’s quitting a job that Old Media-Old Washington never recognized as a “real” job? (unlike, say...Community Organizer)
well..........now she IS a community organizer.......but her community is the whole country.......beware you leftie trolls........LOL
I heard Andrea was sitting down when this pic was taken. The make-up weighed 25 lbs.
I don’t think thats makeup. More like botox and face lifts and alum.
parsy, who wonders how many people know what alum is?

(humor appreciated)
No. Can anyone seriously believe that Sarah Palin is just going to fade away? This grand lady loves our country more than any living politician. And we all know she is not the type to sit back and watch it being corrupted and corroded by Obama & Co. when she can contest him in 2012?
Sarah Palin will never turn her back on America.
She will be our next President and I predict she will win in 2012 with Reagan-like electoral numbers.
I wonder if she will fire the old Dole-McPain agents.
Easy one. an alum is a graduate of a college or university.
jla, asking, "how do I get on Jeopardy?"
...of course that is assuming we will have elections still. There is hope & not the fake kind with more horrible change in six months than we can handle.
In 5 decades of watching politics, gutsiest move I’ve ever seen. God bless her.
“Alum”??? I’m not sure you could pass their “stringent” pre-show tests.
parsy, who is just beside himself at his clever play on words.
free enterprise and smaller government; strong national security for our country and support for our troops; energy independence; and for those who will protect freedom and equality and LIFE . . .(Emphasis mine.)we can ALL learn from our selfless Troops theyre bold, they dont give up, they take a stand and know that LIFE is short so they choose to NOT waste time. They choose to be productive and to serve something greater than SELF... and to build up their families, their states, our country. These Troops and their important missions those are truly the worthy causes in this world and should be the public priority with time and resources and NOT this local / superficial wasteful political bloodsport.
I dunno, this sounds pretty good to me right now.
Sure I could if I just diligently pored over it.
jla, one-upping yet again
You just think you have me in a pickle! BTW, I hear your girl in Alaska is pregnant???
parsy, who approaches battle as cool as a cucumber.
IMO, she is quiting politics, or at least she will not run for office again. I imagine she has had a belly full of our sleazy political system, as many of us here at FR have. I don't blame her a bit.
She has likely come to the same conclusion I have: The system is so corrupt, & the ruling class is so entrenched, that an honest, honorable person has no chance of making meaningful reforms. And the temptation of compromise inevitably makes the reformer part of the continued corruption. If you play with sh$t, you begin to stink, too.
Better now than in the middle of a campaign.
Did anyone notice a quick clause in the middle of her speech in which she turned over the Governorship to Parnell, she stated she’d be availabe [in any way] to help Parnell push Alaska’s initiatives and agenda forward.
Could there be some sort of special appointment of Sarah at a later date? Maybe some sort of unpaid special Alaska Envoy position created just for her???
That would allow her to travel outside the state, do all of the things one needs to do to campaign for other GOPers, prep for a presidential run and still be close to the successes of future Parnell legislations.......
parsy, who approaches battle as cool as a cucumber.
I haven't heard that.
Pickles and cucumbers, eh? That's corny, you should have the mods dillete it.
jla, patting himself on the back for his clever retort
I love Sarah and agree 110%.
Hmmmm, I wonder if Sarah spoke to Rush/Levin to get their opinion when they were off on their secret meeting last week?
Hmmmm.... :-)
Hmmmm, indeed. :)
I sure hope this is true! She could not do it all - Gov. kids and Pres. Two out of three is enough.
doc,
more analysis needed, with your heartland insights.
Frankly, considering that Old Glory is in critical condition, it is disturbing that the ‘10 elections are, thus far, being treated with a “business as usual” approach. The end game is 2010 and is 16 months away.
As far as Palin goes, the conservatives in western New Hampshire are not yet in her camp for ‘12. My sources tell me there is a Cantor advance on the way. Not sure if it’s for ‘12.
CampaignPeteCT,
I am happy to defer to your judgment on the ground games in the early primary states. I will respond to your request for my views.
2010 will be about timing (on both sides) and recruitment.
Normally, recruitment takes care of itself if it is clear that the party in power or its C-in-C is not popular.
The lefties are playing the other side, however. They have resolved to focus fire at every level, as low and personal as possible, on any candidate, especially up and coming women, Hispanics and racial minorities. So, a lot of good candidates don’t even get in, because they want to preserve their dignity. Some of the seemingly papabile candidates, like Sanford, up until recently, have shown gross disregard for the good of the party and the country. Sanford, like Craig before him, is staying in position, even though it turns a two week story into a one or two year story.
I do believe that Palin is a credible candidate in the primaries. I believe that Cantor and Pence are credible as well. Palin was intelligent to pull out now and organize for 2012. She might even help win some seats for conservatives in 2010 if she works on behalf of good candidates. If she can do that, she can earn some chits for 2012.
Timing: I believe that Obama will be able to “blame Bush” for the economy for about two years, max. If inflation is over 8% and gas prices/mortgage rates are high in November 2010, Bush won’t be blamed. Some of the new regs will motivate voters in particular industries. Cap and Trade alone may put some great lakes states into play.
The deeper problem is the Republican Party apparatus being unable or unwilling to define itself in a coherent manner, and to protect its own when being attacked from within. David Frum in particular has been a quisling and nothing but trouble forever. He wants the Republican Party to be come the Progressive Conservative Party.
I will say that a sizeable number here in the heartland will not support a Romney type except MAYBE a vote in the general. I am also convinced that the Obama people are much more comfortable running against a Romney type. Palin is much more of a wild card, and splits all the regular coalitions in new ways. She also activates the base.
There is no one to read Steve Schmidt or David Frum the riot act. Steele wants to stay above the fray.
Barring WWIII, I do not see foreign policy playing a huge role in the upcoming races. Energy, gov. regulation and (for a certain key segment) social issues will be. The Sean Hannity types are, in my opinion, playing it wrong. Other than sin taxes (cigarettes) Obama has not “raised” taxes in the way the show opening implies. His tax will come from the sunsetting of the Bush cuts, which is a tax but won’t be labeled as such, but much more from a weakening dollar.
..........now she IS a community organizer.......
LOL...”She’s beefing up her resume by becomeing a community organizer like BO”...can’t wait to use that on a delusional lib :)
