National campaign adds to Palin legal defense fund

A national campaign fueled by a conservative Web site took in more than $100,000 in the past week for Gov. Sarah Palin's legal defense fund.

The Alaska Fund Trust, was set up to help Palin with legal fees she has run up defending herself against ethics complaints.

A formal "webathon" fundraiser wrapped up Sunday night but Conservatives4Palin says it will continue publicizing the effort with a goal of raising $500,000.

Palin in March said her legal debts had climbed past $500,000.

Palin supporters describe the complaints as frivolous attacks. The governor's office says 14 complaints have been dismissed so far with no finding that Palin violated the state ethics act.

Palin in one case agreed to reimburse the state $10,000 of her children's state-funded travel expenses. Palin herself triggered a state Personnel Board investigation of her on the so-called "Troopergate" affair last fall. Palin said she did so because an Alaska Legislature investigation into her firing of the public safety commissioner was politicized and she was seeking the appropriate venue.

Other complaints have not been settled, said Kristan Cole, trustee for the legal defense fund. She said bills continue to increase and "my sense is they are over $600,000."

Palin's lawyer, Thomas Van Flein, would not give a case-by-case accounting of how Palin has incurred so much legal debt, saying "that type of breakdown is protected by the attorney-client privilege."

Palin's friends and supporters created the legal defense fund in April. It's not known how much it has raised. The trust has no oversight from the state or federal political watchdog agencies.

The Federal Election Commission said the defense fund is a state matter. The Alaska Public Offices Commission, which oversees campaign spending and financial disclosures of state elected officials, has no plan to get involved in regulating it

I want someone to start filing lawsuits against the jerks who are causing all of this trouble.

We need to expose them.

In fact, If you would post the names and addresses of those who are involved in this harassment, I think we should all then write letters to them, and subscribe the man of the house to lots of porn magazines, and call the woman of the house constantly, and then hang up the phone.

Hey, they deserve it, they are scum!

The “ordinary barbarians” at Conservatives4Palin.com are doing a good job of exposing the names and motivations of some of the “anklebiters” and other morons attacking Gov. Palin. If you don’t already do so, you may want to follow the news on that site as well as on FR.

I think I’ve noticed that curth and others are occasionally posting C4P articles here on FR. (Thanks for that.)
