During this upcoming Independence Day, we need to honor and remember the soldiers who are risking their lives for us. Whether it's a soldier on the front lines or one in peace times, their sacrifice for America is great with a heavy price.
Freedom, liberties and all the values we cherish as Americans aren't to be taken lightly or for granted. I had two friends give their lives in Iraq.

Yes - we definitely need to always remember the troops no matter where they are stationed. I can’t help but feel sad for those who are in Iraq and Afghanistan. What can they possibly think when they go out to meet the enemy every day - never knowing if it will be their last while at home they have a CIC who is bent on destroying the country whose uniform they wear? They can’t help but wonder what they will come home to and why they are giving their all while they are being betrayed by this administration and congress.
How many of us over the years have said certain things could never happen in our country? I admit to being one of them - the government would never let this or that happen. AND I’ve been here a long time. I surely hope the military knows there still are good and decent people who truly appreciate the steps they have taken to serve their country.
No reason to hope; they know. I am one of the benefactors of USMC II MHG (Second MEF Hdqtrs. Group), 1st Radio Battalion, 2nd Radio Battalion (all Iraq), and MARSOC F Company (Afghanistan).
One of the Sergeants Major eloquently e-mailed, “As long as we know there are people like you, even if it’s only one person, we know America is worth fighting for, despite what goes on in Washington.”
That is pretty much how a lot of our military personnel feel. All the more reason to keep those packages going to Iraq and Afghanistan. FYI: Priority mail to Iraq is now down to 7 - 10 days, while mail to Afghanistan is about 2 weeks. Send your stuff now for delivery by July 4th.
