One more day for the weekly poll "Is America Good?" A Weekly Poll
No. I would not burn a Bible or a Masonic Bible.
Poll not working. Got a divide by zero error.

* No, I would disobey the command and risk a court martial (0.0%, 1 Votes)
* Yes, it’s a direct command. (0.0%, 0 Votes)
* I don’t know. (0.0%, 0 Votes)
In which language would you prefer to not burn the Bible? ... Series, this is hugh, the Bible in print is merely a collection of letters in ordered version. It is God’s Holy Spirit WSho brings the meaning through when one reads the Bible.
I would not burn the Holy Book.
Sorry about that extra “S” ... fingers too big for keyboard.
No.
Next question?
Have to agree. The Bible teachings are in my heart. You can’t “burn” belief.
The book is not Holy, the Author is Holy. How many verses have you committed to memory? ... Jack Van Empe has the entirte Old and New Testament committed to memory and can access any passage he wishes. That ought to tell you that the book isn’t Holy, the Author is and His message is, as it is lifted from His communication to us, else Jack would be Holy.
let’s see... a liberal would give me a lighter and fuel and ask me to burn a bible.
not wanting to disobey an order, i would set the fire.
the only question is... where. (i halfheartedly hope the liberal knows ‘drop & roll’)
Considering the circumstances in this Afghanistan episode...the fact that they were not to be introduced into the country by the American forces (it was actually directive and order prior to the event)...and that some religious group (through a honest mistake or a bad ethical decision) chose to use some GI to introduce them....then yes, I’d have to carry out the order to burn them.
I spent twenty-two years in the military and have seen various stupid orders given...with severe consequences occurring afterward to the officer who gave the order. In the case where standing orders exist...they typically have a good reason and logic behind them.
In this case, I don’t need the military to be labeled as a threat to Islam in a chaotic country...which these Bibles would have been deemed by radical nutcases. By carrying out the order...you would have impressed the locals and political figures enough that you were still neutral. It’s a stupid order but we are in a stupid mess to begin with...so it makes sense.
The distinction being?
Well, heck! The Jews would burn their Bibles if one single letter was off in it... LOL...
Burning any holy book is the ultimate sign of childish disrespect. Bible, Quaran, Pentateuch, etc.
However, if I can burn the Communist Manifesto.......
Military personnel can only refuse an order that they believe to be illegal. While stupid and wasteful, burning books, any book, is not illegal.
My God is not contained nor constrained to any book.
Considering that it is just paper mayhap. Considering it is the Word of God, no way. This may be a dichotomy of thought; it would depend on the circumstances. To save my life, yes I would burn it knowing it was paper and print to renounce it , no way.

Wow, that’s both prophetic and fatal.
That article said — “... Dari and Pashto Bibles”
—
Ummmm..., I had to find out what the heck they were talking about first. Besides, if my Bibles had names like that on them, I would probably burn them myself, just out of general principles....
No
It is not by accident that the Holy Bible is a fixture in every Masonic Lodge. Within the Holy Bible, our Volume of Sacred Law, is the moral and spiritual teachings that guide us in all our activities. While Masonry elevates no particular religious faith above another, we do recognize the Holy Bible as the source of our moral and spiritual guidance
George Washington’s Inaugural Bible which he used was a Masonic Bible. Its at St. John’s Lodge under the jurisdiction of the Grand Lodge of New York. George Washington was a Mason
The 11th commandment: Thou shalt not burn the holy scriptures. NOT!
Only if the Lord tells me to refuse would I refuse
Yes.
It’s just a book with man-made literature.
I think that its a word of God.
Perhaps a better question is, if you were the janitor at Georgetown, would you cover the cross for Obama’s speech?
In such a situation, I would walk into the Bishop’s office, and tell him that he will have to perform such a direct act of denying Christ personally, because I would not do it.
Yes. The words are God’s words, but the book, the object itself is just ink and paper, identical to millions of others that contain the exact same words. To consider it otherwise is idolatry, in my opinion.
Well, being the imp that I am at my age, I would have covered it but had a ‘pull cord’ to uncover it right at the start of the devil’s address. I might have cross wiored the tele to put up a Bible verse at that moment, also.
It is a matter of principle! I vote NO!
LOL - that solution I could accept. In fact, I would find joy in it.
Congrats - I admire your creativity.
I KNOW it is the word of GOD.
Which part? The Torah?
“For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before his eyes of him to whom we must give account.”
-Hebrews 4:12-13
True. This verse speaking of Christ: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” John 1:1
They can destroy all of the books they like, but they can never destroy God's Word. God's Word, is Christ Himself.
I don't know about being in their situation, but it would depend on the circumstances.
If it was to keep it/them from falling into the hands of someone who would desecrate it/them, you bet.
If it was under combat conditions (I mean imminent exchange of fire) I'd probably follow orders as best I could.
If it was part of garrison duty, I might request to be relieved of that particular duty or follow orders under protest, or I might refuse to follow it as an unlawful order, all depending on the situation. (It's not like it would be the first time I got on my superiors bad side for coloring outside the lines.)
Thanks all, I think I got it corrected now!
Stop acting ridiculous
No.
We agree then
I agree, and I know what you're saying.
Nonetheless, I suspect I would refuse anyway. I would look for a way to evade it, try to arrange to ship them back where they came from perhaps, and failing that I would refuse and face the music.
God bless you!
What I wanted to know was whether a Masonic Bible is identical in content to any particular standard Bible, or if it has specific inclusions, exclusions, or alterations - and what those might be.
Perhaps you are more honorable than I. I suppose it would depend upon the circumstances, and my reading of these circumstances don’t persuade me that disobeying my commanding officer is a higher calling. I might offer a reasonable suggestion that it is a waste to destroy that which some civilian org could use to good effect. But I would not disobey an order on these grounds.
My Masonic Bible, is a small King James bible with some Masonic material added at the front and back- mostly historic material and definitions of words, also some fancy pages right up front where I can write down the dates I received my degrees.. The actual bible text isn’t changed or altered.

Big difference
you think it is the word of GOD, I KNOW it is the word of GOD.
No, unless it was life or death. I could always buy another.
Now, if it were the Koran or better yet, a trainload of Koran’s.... maybe a thousand trainloads, wait... okay, every single Koran on earth and every writing and/or record of it’s existence, I wouldn’t have ANY problem burning enough of those pieces of trash to melt a hole in the earth..... all the way to it’s core.
